@hanovergreen4091 "Catholicism though(IANAC) is responsible for more high art and civilization than almost anything else" citation needed. We called them the "Dark Ages" for a reason. Nice buildings though.

@hanovergreen4091 You can actually watch the pace of scientific discovery slow down at the time of church dominance, even the Bible was kept from the people, who weren't allowed to have it in their own language. Not to mention the whole "Round Earth I think not" BS, that didn't really help mankind. Then all that taking other people's lands and destroying their culture, kidnapping their kids. I mean, it depends on how you define "civilization" but I feel the church destroyed more than they created and it's still happening.

@hanovergreen4091 It increased every year until the church started dominating, then there was a massive slowdown of discoveries (at least in the "western" world), then as the church's influence faded the pace of scientific discoveries sped up again. The church was cancer to science. I didn't bring the Bible into it, I only mentioned how the church helped keep people ignorant, so they could tithe or sell indulgences, whatever scam they were running at the time. They were a parasite on civilization, and they haven't gotten much better. They were still running residential schools up until a few decades ago. They still have enough power and influence to help resurrect (get it?) some of the cultures they've almost destroyed. It doesn't happen. They still don't even get taxed despite being a massive business. It's unfortunate that humans can be manipulated by their desire to have somebody in charge.

The church was a bad place, that's why people left. I'm sad to hear it's an even worse place now but we're not going back there, it's insane.
