@tabora_ Yes, it's for turning. Not for passing someone on your way to the left turn lane to cut them off. You can't even enter the center lane unless you're turning in less than 300ft, not at the intersection. You drive like this?
11
@dakerbal Using eyes and brain helps improve traffic flow. If braking cars are causing problems for you, you're driving too close to them. The slowing down didn't cause this, it was the reckless driving of the impatient person, who doesn't seem to know the rules of the road. The incident is exactly the sort of thing you prevent by driving defensively. If you're in a race with the other cars to get home and you own every lane, there's going to be a problem.
4
@socialjusticewarrior9601 "Never have been late to work in my life." "I tailgate when I need to." Someone is full of shit.
3
@dakerbal Maybe that would be dangerous to drivers behind if they're breaking the law or driving without due care and attention. I don't see a legit reason to enter a turn lane before it exists.
3
@dakerbal ....and the middle lane isn't a turn lane, it's a suicide lane. I don't know the official designation but they're two different things. The turn lane opened in this case after the suicide lane ended, anybody in the suicide lane should have turned already before entering the turn lane. If you follow the rules of the road, you'll likely be safe and avoid road rage, and not at fault in the case of an accident.
3
@socialjusticewarrior9601 If you managed your time correctly and responsibly, you would never need to tailgate.
2
@matteo_syd7271 Yeah, it was 1:20. Video got re-uploaded with the clip removed.
2
@dakerbal When someone slows down in front of you, the best thing to do is slow down, after all you can't see in front of them. If there's another lane, you can change lanes, but if someone's slowing down or stopping for an obstacle or pedestrian, then this isn't the safest thing to do. The person behind was impatient, causing both drivers to be delayed. If cars slowing down is a problem for you, you shouldn't be driving.
2
@dakerbal So you can't imagine a situation where slowing down for a turn causes danger to the person behind? That's good, that probably means you provide ample room for the car in front of you. It's a really good idea at night, in a residential area as well. At best this driver was hindered for a second. The road rage was the real problem, when the driver behind thought it's okay to pass in a suicide lane.
2
@dakerbal So slowing down for your turn isn't justification for braking? You keep saying there was no reason but there are lots: The driver is turning. It is evening. This is a residential area. There's a speed limit, not a speed requirement. As long as you aren't impeding the flow of traffic, use your judgment and drive the speed where you feel safe. You still haven't given one reason other than "hindrance" that the leading driver shouldn't slow down for a turn. Do you own the road? Maybe Europeans don't have suicide lanes. You've shown no indication you even know what you're looking at.
2
@dakerbal So we agree the cammer was 100 percent at fault, since you said the first driver should not have slowed down but now apparently that's okay.
2
@dakerbal Not sure how they entered a lane without checking. The other car was in the suicide lane, not the turn lane, so the lane was clear. Please explain the error of the first driver.
2
I think the road rage guy is slightly more guilty for deliberately hitting someone. Hit and run is quite reckless too though.
1
@DavidDLPE Well passing on the right was obviously the way to go in this situation, considering your move made another driver angry enough to encroach on your lane, and yeah, you did wait way too long to change lanes, and you were aggressive changing back. I don't blame anyone for getting angry at you, you cause accidents and blame other people.
1
@Milan Latona You sound like a good driver.
1
@DavidDLPE Except you were camping in the left lane. And I never said I was "okay" with it. It's for passing, which you're only doing in a fraction of your clip.
1
@DavidDLPE Oh, by the way, were you speeding? You seem to be passing a lot of people who are known for doing the speed limit or greater, such as the truck driver who was passing at the start of the clip. They have schedules, I doubt he or she was going below the limit.
1
@DavidDLPE "Those of us who understand what that means must deal with those like you who are ignorant and oblivious to the danger they create." But you deal with the bad drivers by hogging the left lane, speeding, honking and blinking, then aggressive cutting-off! This guy's crime was ... gasp ... the exact same thing you were doing, but at the speed limit. You're so mad at him you can't see the problem. Get in your lane, idiot.
1
I re-watched the footage and you're tailgating at the start of the clip. And you have the nerve to call anybody "oblivious." You shouldn't be driving. Were you drinking, too?
1
@DavidDLPE No, speed isn't irrelevant. Speeding increases the danger of every maneuver, and of course it's illegal. Yes, your speed did indeed affect the incident. If you hadn't been breaking the law you wouldn't have been even trying to get around the white truck (you'd be travelling at the same speed). You would have been in the right lane, for starters, and you wouldn't have been tailgating the semi. In fact if you stop speeding you'll find a lot of your problems (and frustrations) will vanish. Not shocking to learn you also speed. That's a "bad driver" thing. Were you also drinking? How much do you drink while driving?
1
@DavidDLPE "If you're going to travel on Texas highways, stay out of the left lane unless you're passing someone." If only you would take your advice.
1
@DavidDLPE I find your assertion that travelling the speed limit in the passing lane causes accidents extremely amusing. No, it wasn't the person "blocking" the left lane that caused the accident, it's the person who got mad "their" lane was "blocked." It happened to you in your clip. You got mad, that caused problems (in addition to your speeding, which caused problems). The pickup driver didn't force your bad behavior.
1
@DavidDLPE Please, though, give me the details of even one accident that was caused by someone doing the speed limit in the passing lane. Just one.
1
@DavidDLPE Still waiting to hear about any accidents caused by someone doing the speed limit in the passing lane. Since it's so incredibly common, you should have plenty examples to choose from.
1
@DavidDLPE And why are you showing his license plate, specifically spelling it out on the screen? Did you want me to go to his house and harass him? How mad do you have to be to do stupid shit like that?
1
@NotTOOImpressive It's a different clip. No idea why the wrong timestamp is there but since none of the other 96 replies noticed or pointed it out seems like something got broken since then.
1
@NotTOOImpressive Yeah I guess the video gets re-uploaded with the same comments. I was quite confused as well.
1
@Eric Larson That's her neighborhood, not his. Imagine having to "gun it" coming out of your driveway because people are speeding in front of your house. And then when you don't "gun it" the offending car veers into opposing traffic.
1
@DavidDLPE You should not have been in the left lane, though. In the start of the clip you had already finished passing a vehicle, then you refused to exit the left lane, getting mad at another guy hogging the lane (when you had plenty of room on the right, the lane you should have been in). Then you were reckless passing the guy, which obviously pissed him off. You're a "left lane bandit." Learn to drive.
1
@DavidDLPE I just watched the video, thanks. When you finished passing the first vehicle, the right lane was free and you were no longer passing anybody. That's when you should have changed lanes. Instead you pulled off a dangerous, aggressive pass. You caused this incident.
1
@DavidDLPE Hell, even when the clip starts you aren't passing anybody, you're just trying to annoy another guy out of "your" lane. You suck at driving.
1
@DavidDLPE I see a bad driver, like everyone else you've been arguing with [sees]. You're pushy and aggressive and you caused road rage in this case. You were clearly in the wrong and you even explained why. Get out of the left lane if you aren't passing, and don't aggressively cut people off.
1
@dakerbal By the same logic, not speeding is also dangerous to the drivers behind you, and hinders them. So you should speed.
1
@dakerbal Please, enlighten me on how not slowing down to turn is safer.
1
@dakerbal Oh, I see where you screwed up. The cammer was in the suicide lane, the lead car was in the turn lane. Those are two different lanes, that's why they're marked that way. The suicide lane doesn't "convert," it ends.
1
@dakerbal One lane doesn't become the other, they're two different lanes and they're marked that way. Try opening your eyes or researching traffic laws, this is getting stupid.
1
@dakerbal "I didn't cross the yellow line, officer, the lane transformed."
1
@dakerbal The suicide lane isn't for overtaking. Turning only. It's not a lane you can use to enter the turn lane early, otherwise it would just be a lane (and that would cause a lot of problems). Think. Stop bothering me with your lack of common sense.
1
@dakerbal Yeah, 200 feet before your turn. It doesn't permit you to leave the suicide lane to enter the turn lane (which is for turning at the intersection). It exists so people can turn into their driveways or Walmart without holding up traffic. I know you need to be right but declaring yourself correct repeatedly does nothing.
1
@dakerbal In the video you linked, there is no turn lane, only the center "suicide" lane. You're bad at using your eyes.
1
@dakerbal There's no left turn at the timestamp, just the suicide lane. It's a big waste of time even looking at it, it's not similar to this video. And it's also a huge waste of time since you seem unable to see the difference anyway.
1
@dakerbal Here, I'll leave it at this. If you use the suicide lane to pass, you'll cause what happened in the video. Or it could be worse, maybe the person in front is slowing down for a pedestrian or obstacle. I haven't watched this in a while and I don't care to again, so you can have a W for some ruling some road tester made, but you get a big L for driving like an idiot.
1
@dakerbal Okay, you can't have a license yet if you respond to anything like that. So that explains that.
1
"I've never heard of it" doesn't actually mean something doesn't exist. Some states the cops will pull you over for trying to warn other drivers of a speed trap. It's a courtesy to other drivers so of course it isn't common. I wasn't taught this either, it's just something you notice.
1
How about "stop uploading other people's videos when the video shows them breaking the law or trying to cause an accident." Might be a better policy than "here's a ridiculously bad driver, please don't report."
1
@cabbagejuice Yes, a lot of people speed on "country back roads." That doesn't make it legal or safe.
1
Waving to say hi isn't a thing. If I wave at you it's because I hate your guts and I expect you to understand that.
1
@DavidDLPE Forcing you to go around on the right? You mean the lane you should have been in after completing your pass? That right lane?
1
@scottb8175 He's not "defending" road ragers, he posted the video. He's the one who had to wait a few seconds for "his" lane to clear.
