You could probably see any military equipment made between 1890-2024 in Ukraine after the war. The will have so much burnt out rusty russian vehicles that I don't think they will bother scrapping those that are intact just yet. At least not until that day they join Nato.

You could be right. It could be trucks from the 1950s. But to me this is still a sign of desperation. You do not drive with trucks near the frontline within artillery range unless you lack all kinds of armored vehicles. Even rusty junk from the 1950s without machine guns or any holes for the infantry to look out and fire is better than a truck with no armor at all. Indeed I think it is stupid and reckless. Having the infantry walking on foot and spread out would probably be a better idea to not get spotted and fired upon.

When you lose 20 times more equipment and men for a piece of land than what it is worth... then I call that a big loss and not a victory. But russian propagandists refuse to accept this view that everyone else in the world have that this is a russian defeat, because if they would accept this view then russian military history would just looklike an endless history of military failures. Mariupol and Bakhmut would be seen as lost battles and not as victories. The wars against Finland would be seen as humiliating failures instead of victories. And the struggle against Nazi-Germany would looklike an endless set of battles that russia lost until they grinded down an opponent that was clearly much more competent than the russians themselves and which cared more for its own troops than russia that just wasted its own men like cannon fodder.

I actually believe him. The Ukrainian kill claims are probably optimistically low. It does not include thousands of russians who were blown up behind enemy lines by HIMARS where they could not be seen and counted as kills. It doesn't include russians dead in artillery barrages that leaves no dead bodies behind as everything has been blown to pieces. It does not include dead men inside tanks and vehicles that have been blown up with an unknown number of dead people inside as the vehicle have been reduced into atoms by massive explosions and fires. We don't know how many russians who froze to death last winter, or who got shot by their own troops for retreating. I wouldn't be surprised if 500-700K russian troops have already died because of this war.

Apples and oranges comparison. Maxim guns are used because they can fire non stop unlike modern day machine guns. But using ww1 weapons like Mosin Nagant rifles and GAZ trucks from the 1930s is something that you do not do unless you lack better alternatives. Russia lacks modern high quality assault rifles and armored vehicles, that is the conclusion that I take away from all this. Even some rusty armored junk from the 1950s is better than old trucks that offers no protection at all for the infantry.

Avdiivka might have been an offensive he hoped would give him a victory to brag about before the russian election. And it would deal another blow to Ukraine after a string of "setbacks" like the "failed" counter-offensive, the political mess in USA that halted US aid to Ukraine, the diplomatic fighting with Poland, and the HAMAS-Israel conflict that steals the worlds attention away from Ukraine. But ironically did this battle give Ukraine what it needed the most - some more focus, and a victory with drone footages of burning tanks again like in early 2022. It also helps to speed up the depletion of russian resources as it is easier for Ukraine to fight on the defensive than on the offensive due to its lack of mine clearing equipment and experienced troops. Putin just did Ukraine a big favor with this idiotic offensive.
