@piotrkijak1774 Its was used 50 times before in all kinds of events - including 3 times to Titanic, and one time in a test facility where it was pressure tested for depths equal to that of Titanic. So for that reason could material fatigue maybe be reason behind this tragedy? I mean this upsized soda can must have been squeezed very hard in the past journeys and taken much beating. At 4000 meters below surface where Titanic is, is the PSI 6000 - or 4218 tonnes of pressure per square meter. This uboat is 7 meters long and 3 meters wide, so I guess that its 21 square meters then. So if you take 21 square meters x 4218 tonnes of pressure you get 88.578 tonnes of pressure landing on top of this tiny submarine. That is a lot of pressure. The worlds biggest battleship Yamato did weight 65.000 tons. So you could say that this tiny uboat have to withstand the worlds biggest warship sitting on top of her without breaking. I mean the forces below surface just seems enormous to me if my calculation here is correct.

@glc4155 I realized it afterwards, that I underestimated the pressure. The cylider is about 2.5 meters wide. So I guess its 2.5 x 3.14 (pi) = 7.85 7.85 x 7= 54.95 square meters. 4218 tonnes x 55 square meters is 231.990 tonnes of pressure on a submarine. That is more heavy than 3 Yamato battleships. Or as 4 fully loaded Bismarck-class battleships ready for combat with men, fuel and ammunition and all.

Ocean Gates CEO said he wanted carbonfibre insteat of Titanium because it made the submarine bigger inside. And instead of say two people could you now fit 5 persons inside that submarine. But what he didn't tell you was that the hull was only 5 inches thick and not 7 inch as he was recommended by his own engineers. He did not like what the engineer said about safety and such boring, unsexy and boring things so he fired him.
