I do not feel like a European. I do not even feel much Scandinavian. I am a Swede an nothing else. Perhaps also a little bit of a world citizen - and the EU goes against the idea of being a world citizen, just as it goes against my country. So since those identities are mutually exclusive, then all I can say to the EU is bye, bye. Especially since the EU is bundled togheter with neoliberal policies, and any other economic views are forbidden by EU law. So since leftwing economic cannot coexist with the EU, is it also here an easy choice what I would prefer to flush down the toilet ;)

This country should be ruled by the people living here, and not by some foreign politicians that knows nothing about this place, cares nothing about it, doesn't value its rich history and culture, and have no concern at all for its people. I dunno, but I feel it would be very arrogant by me if I were a politician and would decide the fate over another country under such circumstances and do not care one bit about consent from the people I rule over.' I do not want to treat foreigners like they were people in a newly conquered province of nazi Germany.

@xazorus9229 Sweden would benefit greatly if our military was OUR military and not USAs, Finlands or someone elses military. Our tax money should be prioritized for defending our own country and not for building rapid deployment forces for other countries. And a Nato membership also comes with a cost. We lose our independence a bit. We can no longer have a fully independent foreign policy if we join. For a country with 200 years of peace this is a hard blow to our indentity as a country. Sweden now feels more like a vassal state than an independent country. And if that is the case, why should I care to defend this country when it no longer feels like it is my own country anymore?

Europe will not get any high tech firms because every member country are not allowed to do infant industry protection and impose tariffs to protect their own high tech companies from foreign competition - and that leads to they are getting destroyed before they have a chance to grow. The chicken dies before it even has a chance to hatch from its shell so to say. State support of certain companies is also forbidden according to EUs neoliberal dogmatic constitution. So this alternative solution when you cannot use tariffs cannot be used either. And hidden indirect stat support through military spending will not be effective and probably not enough to help any tech companies grow. Not even if military budgets grew by a lot with the Ukraine war. So the EU have destroyed itself with its libertarian dogma. And since all this dogma is written into EUs constitution is there no way this problem can be fixed in the coming decades. Its probably easier for a country to just make a Brexit if it wants a new industrial policy that isn't a f***ked up failure. Europe got talents in tech. No company can make high tech weapons like SAAB, Clipdrop is good at AI art, Germany is good at making music programs like Logic, Cubase, Magix and then do Sweden also have some famous computer games like Battlefield 1942, Candycrush, Minecraft, and it have Paradox Interactive, Pewdiepie, Pirate bay, Klarna, Spotify. So Europe got smart people. But it has never been able to create a single tech gigant equal to Microsoft, Apple, Google and Amazon.

Omer is right. Sweden can defend itself, by the mid 1990s it had the 2nd strongest military in Europe. Furthermore did it have the 4th largest airforce in the world during the cold war. And the terrain is excellent for defensive warfare. Finland is probably safer inside Nato and does not have this over 200 year long tradition of peace and non-alignment as Sweden have... so joining the Nato is not any culturally or politically complicated. Finland is a tiny country with a small population. It cannot pose a threat to Russia. And I believe it is in its own best self-interest to remain a peaceful and silent member of Nato. Just like Norway and Denmark can it sign a treaty to not accept any nuclear bombs on its territory. Thereby can Finland feel safer without making Russia feel unsafer. And Estonia will enjoy the benefits of safety from Finlands Nato presence. Swedens Nato membership however is just useless. Switerland, Austria and Ireland are not part of Nato. So there is no need for neutral Sweden to join this club either.

The only benefit of joining Nato would be that we can sell more weapons to other countries now. Hägglund & Söner is British just like SAAB, Ericsson have merged with Japanese Sony, etc etc I do not give a shit about those companies anymore. They are no longer Swedish. One thing that the Covid-19 crisis should have learned us Swedes is that WE CANNOT RELY ON OTHER COUNTRIES. We had no own reserve capacity. All gas masks stored from the Cold war had been destroyed to save money. The politicians thought that they only did cost money to store, and that if a crisis happened they believed that other countries would help us. They were wrong. Instead of helping us did France, Germany and Czechia steal hospital equipment from other EU countries - including Sweden - even such material that they had already paid for. So in the peak of covid crisis 800 italians per day were dying from covid due to lack of ventilators did Germany think it was a good idea to steal hospital equipment from friendly nations. And with friends like France and Germany, I wonder who needs enemies? The lesson we should have learned in year 2020 is that we cannot outsource national security to other countries. Sweden must take care of itself.

Sweden and Finland have always voted in favor for Turkey joining the EU. Anyways, I cannot recommend joining the EU. It have only given my country 27 years of constant stagnation. I think Turkey deserves better than that.

@yalassa1 In the modern times. You can talk with people on game chats with people from all around the world, like for example in the game World of tanks. And sure do you have more in common with many foreigners than you have with that nasty bitch in her 50s who is at your job and always complain and is being sour. It is funnier to hang around people with common interests - like tanks and world war 2 in this case. One can also realize that people around the world are not that different. People in other countries can still enjoy your jokes. And even in far distant places like India, Japan, Indonesia, Algeria and such do people also laugh at those jokes, and they also feel and think much like we do and they value their family, they experience bullies at work, and they feel love for a person of the opposite gender and so on. However do I feel more in common with Europeans than with other people? Not really. I feel I have more in common with people from USA, Iceland, Australia, and South Africa than I do with Serbs, French, Bulgarians, Greeks and Turks and Russians. And I am not opposed to European *cooperation*. I am opposed to the idea of *union*, and being one and the same country, and that all European countries must destroy everything that makes them unique to fit in into a new super-state. My sympathies with other countries mostly also lies with countries such as Iceland, Norway, UK, Switzerland and USA - which are not part of the EU. So they are more logical allies for my country Sweden than the EU. And I do not see a world government as desireable. But I am however dissapointed in other parts of the world when they don't support a country (Ukraine) that is a victim of an unprovoced foreign aggression and genocide. It is also remarkable that China, India and Indonesia doesn't care about this world that we share by stop polluting the planet, as those 3 countries are responsible for something like 80% of all plastics in the world oceans. And China spits out more CO2 into the atmosphere than USA and the EU have done combined... and they do not feel any problem in that. So yea, the values of the rest of the world are very different from western values sometimes. And that is why it is important that we countries in the western world sticks togheter so we do not get bullied and taken over by evil countries like Russia or China. And so we get more leverage with India and Brazil to take care of their own enviroment and not exterminate tigers, cut down rainforests and destroy the world oceans with plastic. We need to keep our friendship with Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, and North America. We cannot do as EU leaders like Macron and throw America under the bus, and rather try to build closer ties with dicatorships like China that throws uighurs into concentration camps and have territorial conflicts with nearly all its neighbours. Have the idiots in France and Germany learned nothing from what recently happened when their two countries got overly dependent on Putins Russia and betrayed their allies USA and other European countries? If this is the kind of Europeanism that Europe stands for... then so to hell with not just Macron and Scholz.. but also the entire EU project.

@lahabitaciondelatrapado4621 Switzerland and Sweden have more in common in their view on neutrality than it got with the EU, which wants to replace our armies built for self-defence.. with a force more suitable for invasions of far away countries. Personally I am not interested in any colonial projects and killing brown people. If EU countries like France thinks that is cool, then they can pay for it themselves. Furthermore do I believe in an army of citizens. Than I do in an army of mercenaries and a small group of professionals. It is of course comfortable if you wanna let troops die in an unpopular war in Africa and the middle east that you use foreigners to fight for you. So that people don't have to see their own sons return dead in bodybags in a war to steal some oil, so that the French oil company Total can make some money - like they did when the dicator in Libya was overthrown in 2011. I rather want a politics for the people than for the elite. Of course the elite rather wants the French foreign legion, Gurkhas to fight our wars as they said in EU documents in the 1990s while UK still was an EU member. Today would they perhaps use something like the Wagner group or Blackwater mercenaries to do their dirty work. My own country has been at peace for over 200 years. So I am not very happy about having our world record in peace being destroyed by EUs ambitions.

The Ottoman empire was gigantic and spanned from north africa away into Persia in the middle east. And it also held most of the balkans, and the gigantic city of Constantinople and was a centre for learning around the world. Turkey today is large with 80 million people and a large military.. but it can never become as large and powerful again. But don't be sad that it is over, be happy that it happened 😊 With the abolishment of the Caliphate in 1924 along with the fall of the Chinese emperor system might have been some of the largest events in recent world history. And the effects cannot be undone. Even if Turkey somehow managed to find the best man in the world to lead a newly invented Caliphate to restore order in the muslim world.. that would simply never work. Because not all muslims are the same and have the same opinions. ISIS thinks they are the only real muslims, while others think they are not... and with this you only got chaos. As much as I admire Atatürk and his secular ideas am I not sure if abolishing the Caliphate was a good idea now seen in hindsight. Now we have religious wars and extremism in the world. Sometimes do the middle east remind me of Europe in the 1600s with all the many slightly different variants of christianity going to war with each other because they did not like each others religion. Today we got tanks, machine guns, poison gas and nuclear bombs.. so the wars today can be even more devestating.

@IntoEurope As the book "The entrepreneurial state" concludes did the government create all the high technologies that led to the tech boom in America - the computer, GPS, microelectronics, semiconductors, SIRI etc. Venture capitalists are just parasites that profits from the hardwork and tax money that others had put into creating all those innovations. Those technologies were also invented before NASDAQ was created in 1971. So venture capital was clearly not needed for any innovation. Innovation does not need venture capital more than a fish needs a bicycle. If anything is private capital usally only opposed to innovation. People are scared to lose their own money, and is therefore risk awarse. They do not like long time horizons and having to wait say 20 years for an investment to start making a profit. And private capital also usually hates science just for its own sake. Private capital is only interested in science that can make a profit and nothing else. But that is not true for non-profit organisations. They love science for its own sake. The military does not care about profitability, but more about effectivness of weapons on the battlefield. Healthcare cares about saving lives, curing illness and relieving pain... and profits is not its most important priority.
