The Germans already had Nashorn and Ferdinand which were two very succesful vehicles carrying that gun. Jagdpanther should have been the most succesful tankhunter of the war but the allies bombed that factory that made them because they did not want to let that to happen. Personally do I think that this gun was a bit overkill and thus a bit unecessary. If you really have to kill the biggest allied monster tanks from 3000 meters away then would a crappy panzer IV chassi be enough for that job. Nashorn was liked and had an excellent combat record, but the Germans never seemed to wanna mass produce this vehicle on a large scale.

@naamadossantossilva4736 I see Nashorn as anti-tank guns. But better since this anti-tank gun got tracks and can easily be moved around to a new position. And after it have fired it can quickly move away. This was never designed to be a close combat weapon. Its more of a sniper among anti-tank weapons. This is the way you wanted to kill tanks - from far away at a safe distance. Killing tanks at a close distance with a panzerfaust is much more dangerous.

@vladimirpecherskiy1910 I just fail to see why any tank of that time needed 17cm frontal armor. It just seems like stupid and a waste of steel, and the heavy extra weight just put extra strain on the engine and leads to extra high fuel consumption that germany could not afford. And furthermore, why put so much extra armor in the front? having a front heavy tank will make a tank bad at climbing up from rivers, climbing up on hills, and the tank will more easily get stuck in mud. If it really had to be 70 tonnes heavy it would have made more sense to improve armor thickness on the sides to make the tank better balanced and to prevent anti-tank rifles from penetrating the sides. But personally I would rather have reduced the weight with 25 tonnes or so. And that long gun was just overkill, it could be an upgrade that would be done by 1947 if the war dragged on. But by 1944 it was better to just have the 88mmL55 gun instead to save weight. This tank was too heavy. It could not use bridges because it was too heavy for almost every bridge in Europe at that time. And its slow speed made this tank useless, as it could not keep up with the rapid movements of the frontline where the enemy was advancing 100km in a day and quickly encircled German divisions and cut off their supply lines and made a supply thirsty vehicle like the King Tiger completly useless without fuel and ammunition. It was a tank that was better for World war 1 trench warfare where speed was not important.

@naamadossantossilva4736 It was a liked vehicle. It performed well. It had a good kill ratio. And scored some world records with the longest range tank kills in history. It was a cheap way of providing the infantry with a powerful anti-tank capability. It was way more mobile than an anti-tank gun and better protected. Comparing it to a tank is like comparing apples to oranges.
