I was sounding like a mainstream internet dude, but I think Hitler made greater contributions for the allied victory than both Patton and Monty in this case.

Helmuth von Moltke only laughed twice in his life. One time when his mother in law died. And the second time was when he visited Sweden and saw Vaxholm fortress. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaxholm_Fortress

Monty wasn't neighter good or bad. He understood propaganda and how to motivate his men, and not to got out on a 1vs 1 fight with the Germans, but rather use his crushing superiority in numbers to crush the Germans. Nevertheless was he stuck in world war 1 ideas of smashing a breaktrough in the enermy lines, and tought that tanks would always win if they just got concentrated. Just like the bomber would always get it through. The flaws of this idea came clear in his failures at Caen and Market Garden.

Caen was an utter failure. And the Germans locked up the allies at Normandy for 2 months, despite half of their forces was still sitting around Calais because the military leadership thought that the Normandy landings was just a decoy operation. Just as in Metz, the Ardennes, and Arnhem, so was the terrain in Normandy totally unsuitable for tanks and optimal for defence. And both Patton and Montomery failed with their massive tank offensives. And Montgomery was starting to thinking about abondoning his offensive when he was starting to run out of British infantrymen. Hitler could have locked the 1,5 million allies in at Normandy for months with his tiny force of 2-400.000 men. So of course he ordered an equally stupid panzer offensive himself that ended equally bad in the bad terrain. And that offensive became so costly that the allies shortly was able to breakthough the weakened German lines.
