@novadhd Many kapos were forced by the Germans against their will to take the job when no one else wanted it. If they refused they would get shot. And Kapos were not always beating prisoners because they were sadists, collaborators and such... but because they were afraid to be seen as too soft on the prisoners. If a nazi guard thought that a Kapo did let prisoners get away with being lazy and not following the rules - then the Kapo would get tortured and killed very soon. So the Kapos were in a very bad moral dilemma. And ultimatly one should be angry on the Germans, and not the Kapos. It was the nazis that did put all prisoners in the awful situation they were in.

The nazis killed people who had been fighting for Germany in World war ! and won medals for their bravery and heroic sacrifices. People who saw themselves as patriotic Germans first and as jews second. Men who had risked their lives for their country and their fortune. But Hitler even had those jews killed. It didn't matter to him if took of your jewish clothes and dressed like a German and behaved like a typical German and put your religion on the shelf and no longer cared about it... Hitler wanted all jews dead anyways, because he considered them an inferior race. He even went as far as killing all "half-jews" and jews who worked as slaves in German industry and were important for the German war production. The nazi leadership was so fanatical about killing off all the wrong people that he even preferred harming the economy and the chances of winning the war.

@novadhd Some did because Kapos got more food than other slaves and some did were naive to think that helping the Germans would save their own skin. And sure, the Germans did kill the other slaves first. But after all other slaves had been killed, then it was the Kapos turn to walk inside the gas chamber and meet the same fate. And there were of course those Kapos who were just simple criminals who just wanted food and other rewards, and getting power over other people, and enjoyed beating and abusing.
