They knew that it was risky, but I believe that they were not told honestly how enormosly unsafe this homemade submarine was. A big window for a boat 4000 meters down? A window which have not even been tested for high pressures? A submarine with no emergency equipment to call for help and help locating the submarine? A submarine that cannot be steered by herself, but instead needs a mothership to do the steering of the submarine? A submarine that cannot be opened from the people inside it? No safety measures at all, despite people have paid 250.000 dollars for a trip with this crappy boat steered with a X-box game controller. This all sounds so stupid to me. And that submarine looks so cheap and home made. And sure, I get it not everyone is a submarine specialist. However if you are going to risk your life and go down to those extreme depths you know are dangerous... then I expect you to do at least some research of your own.

I wouldn't go down to those depths with that thing even if I got paid for it

Yea 🙄 I just like the thrill of adventure and pointless risk taking. If I see a stupid risk - then I take it. I use to have a a piano wire put pressed against my throat when I drive my car, just for the thrill. I mean one could research deepwater wrecks with unmanned submarines without risking ones own life. But no, no... these guys felt the need to take low quality vessel down to extreme depths. This garbage uboat was just a disaster waiting to happen given how poorly it was constructed.

Of course can all planes be shot down. The advantage stealth gives is that the enemy most come closer to you, than you need to come to him before someone can open fire. So the plane with steal is more likely to get the first shot and win the fight. Its not a guaranteed victory. The other plane might have super strong sensors and AI that can collect data from multiple sources and get a superior situational awareness and capability to shot down a stealth plane, before it can see the other plane. At least in theory. In practice do I however think that this is very difficult to achieve.

I think they could be saved. 100 meters is manageable. 200-300 meters is much more difficult but not impossible. But under say 500 meters do I think chances for a rescue are extremely low And 4000 meters... just impossible. I don't think that even a well constructed military submarine built by the best engineers form USA and Russia could dive down those depths and be succesfully rescued if something bad happens.

Jumbo jets are used for fire fighting and drops 60 tonnes of water on a fire. And their operating cost per flight hour are lower than many helicopters. So why not then just convert some old planes like that for fire fighting? I mean jumbo jets are no longer used for passanger flights since they are not as profitable as 2 engined planes that costs less to maintain, and it is difficult to fill up the planes with so large amounts of passanger nowadays after Reagan deregulated the airports so many small airports have replaced a few big. So the old planes no longer have any use, aside from a few cargo planes. So why not then just use them as fire fighters?

Boeing F-47 MAX?

Well I don't cry for the drowning rapefugees either. The government should do a rescue effort for these men - but only after it made sure that the company Oceangate, its insurers and the victims families foot the bill. This idiotic hobby and this greedy cost-cutting that created a submarine which was just a disaster waiting to happen - are typical examples of why we do not billionaires. Every penny over 999 million dollars should be confiscated by the government. And instead of idiotic expensive search and recue operations, goldplated toilets, modern "art" and rich peoples funding of their political propaganda - we would get money for the government to get well funded hospitals and money for research solutions to cancer. And history will become the treasure for the entire nation, and we don't need to raise statues over some rich dude that feels the need to tag his name over every project for his ego and prestige - we can have museums and art galleries without that stupid sh*t.

I think that Boeing F-47 Trumper is a better name. But it is ugly and unamerican with canards, so I hope that Trump will veto any such design. Trump would probably also want it to have bigger more powerful engines.

Bezos own 400 private jets. And yet do billionaires feel the need to constantly tell us that we have to change our lifestyle to combat climate change.

Maybe a smaller number of planes could be useful. And yes weapons and fuel will be stored inside. And that will increase drag and fuel consumption, but I guess it will be easier to make the plane more fuel effiecent than a smaller F35 that have to carry much inside it with the little space it have... thus making it unaerodynamic and giving it a crappy wingloading. A bigger plane could carry bigger weapons (like big long range air-to-air missiles), be more aerodynamic in proportion to its size and thus more fuel effiecent. And yes, the aircraft will be unsexy and useless in dogfighting close combat manouvers. Its more of a silent killer just throwing missiles at the enemy from long ranges before he could realize that he is being shot at. This aircraft just takes the same design idea of the F35 just a step further. So speed, ability to turn, close combat weapons, acceleration and such have not just only become deeply down prioritized, but now done away with almost completely.

Its ugly and so unamerican! I hope Trump vetos it and demand changes to the design

The P-47 Trumperdolt

Made from Walmart bults and nuts. A carbonfibre ship, that looks more like a beer can than a tich metal ball as other typical submarines for this depth. A ship with a big window that was untested if it could handle the extreme pressures at the bottom of the ocean. Pressures 380 x times greater than up here on the surface, pressures of 6000psi or 420kg per square centimetre.

F35 is better

I hope it gets named: "Boeing F-47 Trumper Max"

There are no blueprints and machinery for them - as they was destroyed instantly after production to prevent spies from taking a look. And F22 is not a plane for the future. Its stealth coating is old fashion, and F35 have a generation of newer materials built into it. F35 also got a more advanced helmet for its pilot... so things have happened since F22 was built. Furthermore are F35 and F22 unable to carry long range missiles because their little weapons box inside the fusulage is too small to fit the most modern long range missiles. They can for example not carry the meteor missile.

Maybe this is just a bailout to prevent a failing company from dying. The US military does not have so much need for the plane. But the US government sees value in keeping Boeing alive. Many jobs are at stake. And if that companies goes bust, then so do all knowledge in aircraft making do to - and that could be dangerous in a future decades from now if China got modern planes, and USA desperatly needs to produce more planes of its own... but if it lacks aircraft manufacturers then it cannot do that. Boeing has been a badly mismanaged company for some 35 years now and no innovation has been taken place there.

I do not set my expectations high on Boeing designs nowadays

I believe that this ship is sunk by now. Probably because of a leak - and it wouldn't surprise me if it is the glass. If that happens would the ship be totally destroyed within maybe 20 milliseconds - death would instant and that ship would instantly turn flat and now looklike an empty beer can that some have jumped on. On most ships diving down to this depth you don't see them shaped like a round tube. They are rather shaped like thick hard metal ball and if they have a window, then it small, maybe a decimeter in diameter and have atleast a decimeter thick armoured glass. This submarine looks differently and it have a glass window about 60 centimeters (two feet) in diameter and doesn't look that thick. And for some odd reason have that window never been pressure tested. Anyways I believe that this is something like the 4th journey down to Titanic for this "submarine". And its not the first time that the surface ship had problem with communicating with the submarine. Which seems odd to me, since the only real way to make any big movements with the submarine through telling the mothership how you wanna steer the sub, since the submarine cannot move that much by itself. And the little it can move by itself, is by through a $30 Game controller. The 2nd most likely problem, which is far less likely, and that this ship might have had some electrical problem and could not communicate with the mothership and can therefore not steer itself. Once again do I think that this submarine have a bit of an odd design. As it do not have any transponder or emergency equipment like military submarines that sends out pings so that other vessels can be helped to locate it. The US navy have done so much searching in the surrounding area on the surface and not found anything that they have now given up their search on the surface. So I believe it is unlikely that the submarine is floating around on the surface. And if it do will the crew soon likely die as the submarine cannot be opened from the inside, as it is locked from the outside and can only be opened from teh outside. So the crew will now decide on what is better to do if they are still alive. Die from suffocation and lack of oxygen (a painful and horrible death)? or do they rather wanna skip surpressing the carbondioxide and die sooner if they are going to die anyways.. and thereby die a less painless death dying in their sleep?

Nope. We got tanks and bombs to built.

Maybe one way of saving tax payer money and not make the national debt to go up, would be to slap corporate logos slapped all over it? Let Coca-Cola, Nike and Walmart sponsor this project istead.

I unironically hope it gets named Boeing Max F-47 Trumper

I think your comparison is a bit apples and oranges. The problem with computer firms is that they compete and wanna be first before their competitor, so they release an unfinished product and hope updates afterwards could fix their buggy crappy product later on. For that reason do a sound technician never buy a professional music program once it is completly new and filled with so many problems and the program is constantly crashing while you are mixing your music. For that reason will I like to wait at least 8 months before I buy something, And new computers seems to have the same problems. And many new computer games - I remember that Hearts of Iron 3 is one of the crappiest most unreliable games I has ever tried... I love the company Paradox Interactive and their games, but releasing this product this early was just a shameful mistake and an insult towards their fans. This uboat however have other types of flaws. All known. All easily fixable. And if a music program fails you will only make customers angry. But if you mismanage safety on a submarine will people die, families will be impacted forever. And you will have lawsuits against you. Its no news that it is unsafe to have a hatch that cannot be opened from the inside - we learned that back with the fire on board on Apollo 1. Submarines must have sonars that can send out signals of help, and make it possible to locate the submarine - and it just stupid and reckless to not have such equipment. It is stupid and reckless to have glass window that is not pressure tested for the pressures you see down at 4000 meters below surface. And the list goes on and on... This company could easily have fixed those things. And while a tech company might get dissapointed stock market owners and impatient customers with late releases of games and programs... do I think that people have more understanding and other expectations with safety measures on a submarine. I not being able to send emergency signals on a submarine is just reckless greed and stupidity - its like thinking oneself to be smart and economical by saving money by not installing any breaks into a car. And likewise will this seem very odd, as every other car producer puts breaks, airbags, and safety belts into their cars... so why not try to uphold a relativly high standard like everyone else? Instead do a dumbass rich guy talk about "democratize deepwater submarine diving" as an argument 🙄 - Yeah, as if 250K for a single boat trip is what an average person can afford. And despite all this going cheap during the making of this submarine... did the ticket price remain high and the quality of the product remained low - at least as long as consumer safety is concerned.

I think F-47 MAX Trumper would be a better name. MAX since it gives a salespitch and imply maximum performance and strength and refer to Boeings earlier aircraft models. And Trumper is suitable because Trump is the 47th president.
