  3. Well they could have politely asked for independence instead of bombarding fort Sumter. I think that could have defused the explosive situation and thereby avoided a war. And from the slave owning souths perspective would letting the north keeping its tiny amounts of military gear been a small price to pay for southern independence and for avoiding big bloodshed and an ending to the southern way of life.
