He was only 37 when he died. And he was full of life and passion when he lived. Everyone who got to know him liked him. His German import wife got heartbroken when he died, because she was truely in love with him and his burial took ages to accomplish because she could not accept that he was dead. They took out the King's heart and put it into a golden box which the Queen carried around everywhere. Sweden was mourning the loss of loved great King. And Oxenstierna had lost both a great friend and a great coworker. There was nobody that could replace Gustavus, despite Sweden had the best all star team in Europe of gifted Generals and administrators.

Det du pratar om är det stora nordiska kriget som kom 70år senare. Här pratar vi om någonting helt annat.

There was once upon a time a Queen named Christina who ruled Sweden. She was stupid. Then she died. End of story. Time to go to bed.

Having a strong peasantry with arms works in countries where the nobility was weak. In Sweden did the nobility get murdered time and time again (Stockholm's bloodbath, the Sture murders, Linköpings bloodbath, etc) and Sweden's territory is filled with forests that gave the peasants excellent terrain for ambushing noble mounted knights. And Sweden's cold climate and lack of sunlight did not create large harvests like in France and Belgium.. so the country was poor, and the nobility was very poor and therefore not that powerful. So the nobility was therefore too weak to disarm the peasants. And they could not just force their will through. Instead they had to negotiate with the peasants about everything. So the Swedish state was based on negotiations between the rulers and the peasantry. And when the peasants felt they were listened to there was fever revolts and riots. And the taxes could be negotiated up to higher levels than in other countries to pay for all wars. And since the nobility was poor, was the only way to get rich to serve the King and the state. Instead of nobles only caring what is best for themselves, and not caring if the county gets burned down by enemy invaders because they don't wanna pay taxes. Poland never became a power that conquered Europe because of its strong nobility. Little Sweden could however do that despite very small resources, thanks to its efficient system.

Queen Christina was a traitor who bankrupted the country and gave away all treasures of art and historical artifacts to her countries enemies. She only ruled the country for a few years and accomplished nothing great - unlike her father Gustavus who conquered Moscow and all of Germany, saved protestantism from destruction and revolutionized warfare. She was an useless monarch, and she knew it herself. She even said that "no woman is suitable to rule a country". She might had good intentions, but she was too young and dumb to make good decisions. She refused to listen to skilled elderly advisors like Axel Oxenstierna because she considered him to be a warmonger only because he had a more pragmatic view on the 30 years war and realized that it could be won. Christina on the other hand did want to end it at all costs. And she ordered cease fires and peace negotiations which gave the Catholic armies time to escape traps laid out by the Swedish Generals, and they got more time to recruit men and strengthen their positions... so all this nonsense by Christina only contributed to helping Sweden's enemies and prolonging the war and suffering for everyone. She is celebrated by stupid feminists today only because she happened to be a woman. Had she been a man then she would have been remembered as the most useless monarch in Swedish history and a traitor instead.

England was fighting its own civil war so it could not send any troops to Germany to fight on the Protestants side. Britain did however fight some wars against Spain - which was allied with the Catholic Austria. So in a way you could say that Sweden, England, France, the Netherlands and Denmark fought on the same side in this world war - against the Habsburg Austria and Spain. After the war would Sweden and England form an alliance during the mid-1600's.

Had he won the great northern war he would have been known as "Charles the great" worldwide 😉 Now people know another man as "Karl der grosse" (Charlemagne) and he was not the King of Sweden. So Carolus Rex is a pretty good name. One underestimated King internationally. Someone should make a movie about his life.

@fanbuoy9234 The King CarlXII movie is from 1925. But the national movie archive (Filmarkivet) refuses to hand that movie out to the public for some reason, and instead they give us junk movies instead. Personally I suspect that this is because patriotism is not popular among the Communists ruling the country's institutions.

It is good that there are even a special word for throwing people out from a window. That is so useful and good to have. One never know when one might need to say "defenestration" in ones daily life.

Typical modern day useless Communist education
