I think I get contradictory information everywhere about everything that surround this sub.. so why not about this? According to my own most recent knowledge have this sub been certified for 1500 meters below surface. But that is far from the 4000 meters depth of Titanic. And that window have not been pressure tested for the depths of Titanic - which the former chief of submarine rescue of the Swedish navy considered to be "very strange", and my personal impression is that this swedish navy guy mostly thought that it was probably that windows fault that the submarine did crack and sunk.. eventhough he didn't say so outright. However he did not rule out other explanations like electric failure, but thought it was more unlikely. Personally I believe guess that a broken window caused this. And the second most likely alternative explanation why the ship sunk, would be material fatigue. Maybe this thin carbonfibre construct could handle a few dives, but after a pair of dives at 4000 meters down had the walls from the submarine undergone too much stress under its lifetime, so it started to crack - and once a tiny crack had been created it was game over. The submarine was instantly destroyed by the enormous pressure of sea water. And with instantly I mean less than a second, say 0.2 seconds. And after 0.2 seconds had passed was the 6 ton submarine just sea wreck and everyone inside dead. And the uboat now probably just looklike a beer can that someone has jumped on - such are the powerful forces that we are talking about here..

I am not a diver, or from the english speaking world. But had I known that it was even possible to sail this dangerous death trap of a sub, then I would have tried to warn people. This uboat is so silly and dumb and so dangerous and no emergency tool kit what so ever - this sub was just a disaster waiting to happen. And this uboat now ended up killing its own creator.

He constructor could have learned much from the past - but he did not do so. Having a hatch that only can be opened from the outside is a stupid thing - we knew that from the Apollo 1 disaster where astronauts could not get out when a fire started. And this design for an uboat is bad for the same reasons. And it would also have been impossible for the men to get out and get fresh air if they had been able to come up to the surface safely - so then they would have suffocated to death for that reason instead.

This submarine was not regulated at all. And the billionaire who built this sub hated regulations. In the end would that come up and bite him in the ass. Ironically would then Capitalism end up killing this billionaire. He wanted to save money by cutting back on safety - and that took his life.

Murder is not the right word. But it is clearly behaviour so reckless that it is criminal. Its like when an electrician does do a bad job and cheating and ending up creating an unsafe bathroom that kills a person with an electric current. Indeed causing an electric fire that burns up someones home or kill someones dog is bad enough.

@the.parks.of.no.return Well he also died himself on board this ship, so I don't think his intention was killing people. But his reckless attitude towards safety, made this submarine a danger - and an accident was just waiting to happen it.

@jonymanay "Its time for people to take responsibility for their actions" I agree. Let the company Ocean gate pay the rescue workers. Tax payers should not have to pay for other peoples stupid hobbies. If people needs to constantly be rescued by a helicopter because of their mountain climbing hobby then they should pay for it themself, since their own reckless behaviour is at fault.
1
@jonymanay It a moose hit my car it was not my fault, I was not being reckless and excercising a hobby at societys expense. And as I said earlier if some middle class people constantly needs to be picked up by a helicopter for hundreds of thousands of dollars then they should pay for it out of their own pocket. What is so hard to understand about that? I think tax money should be used for government functions, the military, the police and so on. And if a billionaire gets a cancer because of bad luck, then of course he should get help (like anyone else) from the healthcare system which should give people help according to need and not according to the size of someones wallet. Someone who have been hit by a car and is bleeding should get help before someone who just want a regular health check, or vaccination and before someone who is worried about a mosqouito bite that likely will heal within 3 days. I don't like people who abuse the system. Having socialism where we take money from responsible people and give it to irresponsible people is nothing I am in favor of. I think it is unfair. And I think it creates perverse incentives that are harmful to society as a whole. Do you wanna pay for my expensive hobbies? - I guess your answer is "no". So why then are complaining when I am not in favor of paying for other peoples hobbies?

Stockton could be criticised for much with this submarine, but please leave that dumb culture war nonsense out of this. This had very little to do with this tragic event. This tragedy happened because of cost-cutting, arrogance towards risk, and such. With or without woke would this uboat have sunk and killed people on board sooner or later.

They have already began with people looking for them - but with submarine drones I guess

The man got a death sentence - as he was one of the five on this sub.

But, but, butt... the he wanted to "democratize" ocean exploration. Thats why he made it so cheap that anyone could afford it if they have 250.000 dollars. So what are you waiting for? Sell your home and you can also take a one-day trip to Titanic inside an upsized soda can with no toilet and no stupid wasteful safety measures. Regulations are just for Communists.

The captain on the uboat was probably dead and the ship was destroyed. Imagine having an uboat of 21 square meters - and then comes almost 90.000 tons of weight (Yamato the worlds biggest battleship was 65.000 tons) slamming down on this tiny 10 ton submarine... there will be nothing left of that uboat and the people inside. As soon as a part of the submarine could not handle the extreme forces at thousands of meters down in the ocean did this sub probably started to crack somewhere. And even a tiny crack was a death sentence - as the pressure was so enormous that it would have ripped anyone inside to pieces in the fraction of a second. And the submarine will now probably looklike an empty beer can that someone has stepped on. Death was so fast that no signal for help was sent. Indeed, its possible that the men inside did not know that the sub was about to crack before it was too late. They all died in less than a second. The people on the ship at the surface did of course not know what had happened.

Only 1 of them were still in reproductive age, and that guy seems to have been talked into this by his dad.

I don't think this had to do with wokeism. It had to do with the man wanted to creating an imagine of being a new and innovative company. He wanted to be young and cool - like an Elon Musk. So he did not hire experienced submarine engineers partly because of that reason. The other reason was probably because he was a billionaire, and he is not used to not getting his will through and people disagreeing with him. And that seems to be a typical red thread throughout entire development process of this idiotic submarine. He refused to have a normal communications equipment where you can speak with the mothership. This silly person did think that this "disturbed" the pleasure of his deep dive submarine journeys so he therefore only had text messages as the only way of communicating with the mothership. His uboat did in so many ways differentiate between a normal submarine for deepwater dives, and yet he did not hire an expert in order to create a safe submarine - probably because he would come with much expensive ideas that this billionaire did not like to hear... certification for the glass window, sonar that could send out emergency signals if the uboat got stuck on the bottom, getting a hatch that could be opened from the inside, an electric system that does not come from camper vans, but have more reliability... and safe electric connections that does not only rely on an unsafe wireless connection. All those things would probably raise costs for building his little dream boat. And his favorite gadget - the big window, could very well have been the very thing that resulted in this uboat leaking in water and instantly killing everyone inside. The guy did not wanna hear expert opinions because they would protest the ways his dumb submarine was built - so therefore he rather hired clueless youngsters who would not protest too much. So this rich dude could get his will through without anyone arguing against him. He built this thing out of a thin layer of carbonfibre instead of thick wall of steel or titanium. The glued togheter his submarine. And he bought nuts and bolts from Wallmart to keep down costs. And not having any safety measures like sonar, a double pair of electric wiring and such also reduced production costs for this rich guy. But the submarine became just as crappy as he deserved.

They always check that the electric system works just before they make a dive.

There are some comical stupidity in all this. But I cannot joke about it. And nor do I think any jokes are funny as the thing that recently happened is just tragic. However their death may not have been pointless. Many lessons can be learned from this. The Uboat Titan is a perfect example of how one should not build a submarine. Their deaths can therefore save many lives in the future. And not just regarding submarine construction, but also when it comes other vehicles like those for space exploration or surface ships.
