  1. Yes. Sadly, most of the European countries who fought against intolerance and despotism in WWII have now become their own versions of intolerance and despotism. Have we learned nothing? I'm reminded that the EU managed to unite much of Europe, but I'm also reminded of European folks in the 1930's and 40's who also tried to unite Europe. I'm also reminded of the "uniting" of Eastern Europe in the 1940's under the USSR and their intolerance and despotism. I would think that in Europe more surely than anywhere else on earth governments would be guardians of freedom and individual rights and willing to continue to fight intolerance and despotism.
