If "Star Trek" episodes reflected our actual experience with alien life, every episode would be filled with dialog like: Kirk: "Nope, nothing here"; Spock: "I don't see anything Captain"; Ohura: "I don't hear anything intelligible"; Sulu: "This is sooooo booring... let's go to a holodeck club and dance"; Scott: "Captain, ah hae no' seen a wee thing bu' a muckle o' vacuum an' no life aboot"; McCoy: "Damnit Jim, we're just wasting our lives out here.
