@aint_just_whistlin_dixie we were forced into poverty under British law, when Ireland was partitioned, it lost 85% of it’s industry, that has since reversed, and it that time was already the poorest region in Western Europe, a hundred years after the Acts of Union the population was half, apart from the fact that Ireland has always produced more than it needs, and Britain hasn’t been able to feed itself for over two hundred years, there was no famine in Britain.
Even today Britain isn’t food independent and sovereign, and can only produce 20% of it’s needs, the entire island of Ireland produces enough food to feed 60,000,000 people.
The Republic is the second largest exporter of software and the third largest exporter of pharmaceuticals in the world.
While children malnutrition is becoming the norm in Britain.

@MFJoneser you are misreading and misrepresenting and over generalising, I hope for nothing but the best for the future of both islands, obviously. We are all dependent on it on a macro and micro scale in every corner of the globe.
What I won’t take is lies and misinformation and wild fanciful wilful ignorance, it’s what led to Brexit, it had no mandate anywhere here, nobody wanted it, and it’s potential deeper consequences of another period of political uncertainty for the future prosperity and democracy and peace on the island of Ireland.
The northern executive isn’t functioning, hence money is being returned to Westminster, people are suffering financially, while Unionists are holding everyone hostage and everyone else accountable for their own mistakes and failures and their hubris is not for turning.
If it’s not their way, start burning buses and take it from there.
It’s impossible to reason with an unreasonable people who don’t believe in the democratic process neither in Dublin or Westminster or Belfast or Brussels.
Not even their own Supreme Court.
So, what’s your point, really?
