@headshot6959 When my mum was 6, she and her mother came to live here. Her mother married an English soldier. She was German. My country, of which I am very proud, offered a sanctuary to a refugee, whose town had been bombed off the face of the earth, whose country had been responsible for 6 years of bloody conflict. My country did not discriminate. My country welcomed her. It does not matter what views a small minded minority have, we as a society are kind, generous, welcoming, forgiving and humane, to name but a few of our traits. This is my country. I love my country and anyone that shares our values and wishes to join us is welcome aboard.

@headshot6959 I don't think many sane people would disagree with that, If someone had managed to sail from a war zone all the way here, and this was their first port of call and they were a genuine asylum seeker. I would give them a medal for the endeavour. However those people that have already made it to France or some other "safe country" should be correctly dealt with where they first landed. It could not be clearer! My wife is foreign and she wants to come here to live, but we are saving up for the exorbitant fees to pay for the visa through the correct channels. She would not dream of coming here illegally, because she has principles.

Thank you. It cannot be such a bad place if so many choose to live here. I have lived in many other countries and know how good it is here compared to some countries. Anyone not proud of this land should go to another country for a year, just to learn how to appreciate England!

@headshot6959 Thanks. Progress is being made. let's just say what isn't desert is river. There are many beautiful countries, with ugly governments. We really have to stop allowing people to bad mouth this country. What happened 100 years ago was not done by us the peasants, or our generation. This is a very free country and has the most tolerant people. Moreso than any of the many countries that I have lived in.

It has been said that Julius Caesar asked of the Celts. Are they natives or immigrants? This was over 2000 years ago. The truth is we are a mongrel race, and proudly so. We have absorbed all cultures and adopted the best. Our blood is the blood of every intepid adventurer brave enough to cross our deadly seas and endure our various climate. They came, they saw, they desired, and still they do. Come to our welcoming arms, bring all your good things, but leave all that behind that made your own land unworthy of you. You are home now brave, intrepid wanderer.

@headshot6959 You would think so. but she has to apply for a spouse visa which is about 3 grand and prove she can speak English, she is a graduate linguist and her English is better than most of us natives, pay for an NHS certificate which is about 600 quid and if her application is rejected for any reason she will not get that back. She also has to pay a fee to her government for allowing hr to leave. The difference between the government and organised crime? The former does its crimes behind the law the latter does it in spite of it!

@headshot6959 Before she can book a flight she needs a visa to her destination and a travel permit from there. I have already been escorted by armed guards, out of the state radio station and advised to leave the country, for making a political joke on air. Natives just vanish. Dissident asylum seekers' families are made to suffer.

@peteg8920 He should have been proud to have given the youth the right to choose their way of life. That is what my heroic parents generation won for us. The current generation will not realise the value of the gift until they have to pay in blood to get it back.
