  1. State benefits should be the for those that have paid in to be a fall back in case, we are out of work temporarily, sick or disabled or on mater/paternity. It is not a career choice for the lazy and feckless. It is not for state sponsored single mothers. We have enough irresponsible people and criminals.

  2. The point Starkey is making is the very thing I have been thinking since I was on the campaign trail with Blair. When you see the core values of, whichever, party you support abandoned to appeal to an electorate so manipulated that they have no idea what they are voting for but follow a message. You realise that you have no mainstream movement to identify with. Neither of the main parties is really delectable, it's just one is so hated that the other becomes electable by default. We need a government made up of independent candidates elected on their merits not on some perceived party loyalty. The electorate needs to listen to and comprehend the policies, elect the candidate on merit and allow this loose coalition to form a common good policy set. Abandon the big two!
