Does anyone really understand the amount of CO2 that the atmosphere contains and what it actually does?
I am fully on board with reducing atmospheric pollution, particularly in big cities. I have lived, long term, in Mexico City and in Cairo amongst other cities. The air quality in Mexico City was greatly improved by removing the most polluting vehicles, the VW Beatles (los bochos) used as taxis, very old micro buses and limitations on older cars to a few days per week. This resulted in vast reductions in smog. During lock down (I am not agreeing with lockdowns) the reductions in car usage in Cairo had dramatic effects on air quality.
The problem is that reducing pollution in cities is one thing. Demonising co2 specifically is insane. No co2 would mean no life on earth. More co2 would promote more plant life such as algae, grasses, mosses, trees and fungi. All of which are massive carbon dioxide consumers. There are also many other toxic and greenhouse gasses that are being emmited by huge industrial activity. Even if everyone stopped driving cars, that would still continue. If oil is not being used to drive vehicles, that business would simply make more plastics from it, which are greater agents of pollution than cars.
Misinformation is the greatest enemy of humankind.
