  1. It has literally come to a point, that you can't have a laugh with your workmates. I am all in favour of ending workplace bullying and of course exscising any ISMs. Part of being a grown up is knowing the difference between friendly banter and insult. The problem now is that the bullying is worse. The proliferation of "victim groups" has opened a set of floodgates. The set of nine protected characteristics has itself been turned into an heirarchy. When in fact the intention is that all should be equally protected. I recently experienced a situation where I was told, by a younger and subordinate female colleague, that I constantly made sexist comments. I know this was not the case for two distinct reasons. The first being that I am very careful what I say. I am highly opinionated but the basis for them is mostly provable, citeable, factual and unquestionably true or clearly stated as a theory, speculation or personal observation. The second being that I do not have any dogmatic or indoctrinated beliefs of that nature. I was then told that I must have unconscious biases due to my generation. Of course I am fully able to annihilated this type of reactionary and fallacious argument. I told my direct manager about this. Claiming that I am an unfiltered stream of consciousness, that I could Harvard Reference practically anything that comes out of my mouth, and that this other person was quoting a mantra that was not based on any factual or observable events. That person was unable to quote one example of what I was accused of. I said if it is constant, frequent or even occasional there must be one example at least. So the conclusion was that younger and female, are 2 of 9 characteristics, but I had the same 2 ie older and male, but it is a common misconception that older and male are characteristics of an oppressor group. So this 9 characteristics that are usually listed in alphabetical order, are not a heirarchy. It is only the complete misunderstandings of the ignorant fired up by the seditious, that bring about much of this new bullying. What I really want to try to understand is exactly what do they think was the zeitgeist of my generation. I believe that we broke down many of the barriers and shattered the glass ceilings of the establishment. Women from my generation stood on the shoulders of the suffragettes and women's lib movements and assumed equality where it should be and enforced it where it wasn't, people of different ethnicities and religions, sexualities and abilities assumed their rights as citizens and had a society that wanted the same. We are a united generation that knows the true enemy is the elite and the true discrinination is economic, and all this ridiculous infighting is letting them win. The young must learn to choose the right fight, the right hill to die on.
