  3.  @Gabriel-l  - I find that most people from English speaking countries arrogantly expect foreigners to speak English and do not complement those who can. However, foreigners in Japan are regularly congratulated on knowing even small bits of Japanese. From some it's just politeness, but from others genuine amazement that an actual foreigner can learn a language as "hard" as Japanese.

  6. For most people who speak European languages, Japanese is one of the hardest languages. The further you progress, the more difficult it gets.

  7. When I resided in Japan, you get some people who are genuinely (or feign to) surprised that you can speak a single word of Japanese. But most Japanese aren't surprised at all if you speak Japanese. They will be if you speak to native or fully fluent level, however, because that is pretty rare.

  8.  @isaacstone7899  - humidity in Japan will often be over 90% - it's oppressive. Like a sauna and it feels much hotter than the mercury reads.
