  2. @MountainRain - there has been work on this and it would not have been an American accent - this is a common myth. There are certain pronunciations in standard American that would have been closer, such as the short a in bath, but this pronunciation is quite common in much of Britain. There are some good YouTube videos that have recreations of Elizabethan English and there is also the "high tide" American accent which might be closer to that original accent
