Based on the coffee and milk example, you just need to keep adding complexity until the code reaches maximum entropy at which point you’ll suddenly realise it’s simple again.

15:04 but a pencil is more difficult to make than a human because it requires all the gathered resources and complex machinery (which itself went through a construction phase) in order to make it. It couldn’t exist otherwise. Plus, the pencil has a purpose that only exists because humans exist. They would not exist otherwise. The need for a pencil is emergent. The other interesting aspect of complexity and emergence is that there are different scales of emergence. E.g the complexity of a single human, vs the complexity of human society and the emergent properties at those different scales. That discussion can either be with us remove from or integrated with the ecosystem we live within and harbour within ourselves.
