  1. I much prefer owning a home. Feels more secure. Not beholden to the whims and intrusions of a landlord. My financial contributions are going to me not someone else. I can choose to change anything about my home at any point. I’m pretty sure that were there policies to ensure every citizen of a country could purchase a home in their country, 95% of people would choose to do so. The remaining 5% would probably be workers that need flexibility of location. The monetary and time cost of breaking a lease are probably a lot less than the costs involved of selling a home. But again, 95% of people probably don’t want or need that flexibility.

  2. Most of the home maintenance is cleaning and gardening, which you need to do when renting anyways. It’s not much different calling up a trades person instead of a landlord to get more complex work done. A trades person is more reliable because they won’t argue with you about the problem or the fix, and they will attend quickly without needing to follow up. Or you can fix your self and save a bit of $$$.
