  2. 18:46 it’s frustrating how “metaphysical” they are making quantum mechanics sound. As a computer scientist, I’m more inclined to think that consciousness emerges from biology, and we will find something akin to a Turing machine or push down automata or something like it inside each neuron, which react to inputs and produce outputs, and temporarily or permanently store bits of information. From this, coupled with the changeable graph structure of the brain, consciousness emerges, and is persisted and evolves.

  3.  @raymondwright  frustrating because they’re applying something unnecessary when there is no proof or need of such and they’re implying there is something magical and incomprehensible controlling and running the universe. They are implying a god without actually saying those words. The second point you’re making, we are effectively saying the same thing. Digital computation using 1s and 0s is just one subset of what computation can be. As we know in computational maths, there is a whole realm of what we know computation can look like, and it seems to me, biology can be described by a 3D form of a Turing machine or similar, or rather many, all working in concert.
