That opening clickbait is exactly why non-software-engineering-educated people should not manage software engineering teams, and also why there needs to be a specific C-suite role for the software engineering vertical of a company. Managers should be able to help their team navigate and get over hurdles quickly, or to pivot quickly. They should already know the problems and have strategies in play already. Managers that aren’t software-engineering-educated are simply not qualified for the role. If your manager isn’t software-engineering-educated, think about leaving. You don’t see non-doctors leading teams of doctors and running hospitals, or non-lawyers running the legal system, or non-police officers running the police force, or non-military running military operations, or non-engineers running engineering companies (besides Boeing which has a world of trouble right now). Software engineering is one of the only fields where this situation has come about, and it’s wrong.

@HealthyDev this is completely off topic from the actual point of my comment, but since you bring it up, bait and hook are two of the needed components to catch fish. It doesn’t really matter what you’re catching or why you’re catching it, people catch fish for all kinds of reasons. Honestly I didn’t mean it derogatorily. I was just describing the part of the vid my actual comment relates to.
