@bearcb "The forced conversion of the Roman Empire to Christianity was one of the greatest tragedies in human history" Thats a huge sentence. How do you conclude this? Based on what?

@LordDirus007 umm I have no clue where you are getting all this from? I never said any of this. You are confusing me with bearcb .. please go back and see the timeline of comments. You can apologize after

@LordDirus007 @bearcb In fact I was asking "bearcb" why, or how he came to the conclusion that Christianity forced upon Romans was the greatest tragedy in human history. lol. thats why i asked him based on what evidence

@LordDirus007 no worries. I love history and archeology. Fanatical even lol the more you delve into it, the more religions seem "doctored" if you get my meaning. Without insulting anyones beliefs of course.

@LordDirus007 I did not say that Christianity did not have a positive or negative effect. We could never know what would have been. But I can say it had nothing to do with Islam since Islam would not be around for another 400 years. Was it to unite the Roman empire? Maybe. Was it to counter the Eastern Persian religious influences of Zoroastrianism or even to quell any Judaism spreading to other parts of the Roman world... again, who really knows. As the Roman Empire grew and many other cultures were integrated into the Empire, maybe a uniting religion was the best option for the Emperor. If he stayed with the Old Roman gods, the new religions would make the old Roman gods obsolete and thus make the Emperor (s) less like a deity but more like a false king. If he went with Zoroastrianism, he would have given more precedence to the Eastern part of the empire, and same for Judaism to the south. This new young religion called Christianity was a way of countering the power play and legitimizing Rome, and the Emperor.

In the end, it was the pagan worshiping Germanic tribes that did them in, and not where they thought would be their demise lool
