Alabama Man Special Edition To define is to limit and to constrain, thus defining "woman" restricts what a woman can be, therefore making the concept in and of itself sexist.
11
@rubbercable Or you future-proof your ideology by making it flexible and vague enough that it most likely would continue working.

@minddog I think of it as identity being immutable, and one's expression of that identity being what changes. I could change into a dress right now, and I'd still be a man, because I don't see myself as a woman in any capacity.
2
Alabama Man Special Edition the definition does matter. The definition is any human who sees themselves as on the male end of the bimodal distribution of gender. The definition of "cisgender male" is what you're looking for - that term actually matters medically.
2
I like to think of it as two separate things: the social (how you're seen) and the medical (how your body works). Modern language distinguishes these through separate words. Cis women have both, and trans women can have anywhere from just the social to theoretically both. Cis men have neither, and trans men can have anywhere from just the medical to theoretically none. It's an odd system, but it seems to work.

Of course. However, intersex people existing does imply that sex is not as rigid as people believe it to be. Especially since intersex also includes people who are a different sex (assigned at birth) than their chromosomal makeup seems to imply, therefore validating the argument that chromosomes do not completely determine sex, let alone gender.

@thehappyclam3942 Therefore it shouldn't have any bearing on society, and instead of dismissing those of one type as the innate aggressors we should take steps to integrate society until the distinction no longer matters aside from where it has to.
1
@thehappyclam3942 so one's birth sex determines one's ability to function in society?
1
@Jahid_n Exactly. People see gender, not sex.
1
@Jahid_n I meant that the way society functions in regards to you changes how you function in society.
1
@Muykle Besides, contemporary thought posits that all discrimination and prejudice comes from connected sources, and issues are so intertwined they might as well just be one big issue, so what's the big deal about letting people help reach equality?
1
Alabama Man Special Edition I did define it. Gender is an identity with no meaning beyond that. Sex has a biological component, but it doesn’t do much societally. The thing that provokes sexism is outward presentation, which has nothing to do with either.

Alabama Man Special Edition sentience n. The ability of an organism to understand, alter, and express itself, most often expressed in the human species.
1
Alabama Man Special Edition organisms which are sentient have identities and can express them. You know more about your basic sense of self than anyone else does or can. Therefore, a sentient creature like a human should be able to display and express their identity in any way which falls along the lines of protected expression. This includes gender, religion, sexuality, etc. Who are you to decide someone else's most basic identity? That's like saying Peter Parker isn't "allowed" to be Spider-Man.
1
Alabama Man Special Edition We're not talking about non-binary people. We're talking about binary trans people. Besides, two points: 1. you probably won't be able to recognize if someone is trans. 2. When in doubt, use "they".

@rubbercable I personally disagree with Vaush on a few issues mostly related to diplomacy, but I like his takes on gender.
