It seems like every time I tune in to your show, Ian, there is talk of escalation in the multitude of conflicts that are beginning to look like Canadian wildfires in summer as their numbers increase and the odds of a conflagration drawing in the superpowers threatens to gain in intensity. I do not buy into being a doom sayer, but the slippery slope of hope that things will go back to boring normal seems to fading faster than ever before. The hit on an American military base in Jordan is in my mind someone hoping Uncle Joe takes the bait and ups the ante. I think it would be wise to use reverse psychology on whoever and whomever may be trying to trick the Americans into kickstarting a wider conflict in a region seething with animosity and grief over events no one in the middle east seems to be able to control very well.
