  1. Dr Jim Tour is the man to ask about life on earth because he has studied the simplest cell and what he has discovered should make us all step back and take a second think. Can we say second think on a Lex Fridman vocast? The membrane on a simple cell has one possibility in 10 to the 78 billion of combinations to work. Only one combination works! The carbohydrates on the membrane of a simple cell alone are more complex than the DNA and the RNA put together in a simple cell. What am I saying here? All of the components for a simple cell to be alive have to come together in a certain way with each being made in a certain way at a certain temperature. You cannot have the lipids and wait three weeks for another part of the cell to be part of the mix, carbohydrates carmalize after a few weeks and that means you have to make more of them, but as Jim puts it, nature doesn't have a lab manual and can go back and re-make some ingredient. They all have to come together at the same time for a living cell to work. This is why I no longer buy in the primordial soup idea that our teachers taught us in primary school. No, what we can see is an extraordinary coincidental occurance could have happened to make the first living cell, but it looks more like there is another explanation needed to make it stand up to scrutiny...
