In all due respect to the tourism industry and the hard working men and women and everyone who do their best to make their cruises run smoothly and keep the passengers happy, to hear that the cruise ships will be banned from Venice means that I will be going for a visit as soon as the pandemic ebbs. The gangly, huge bloated-looking ships not only make the superb architecture and panormic views of this lost parradise of Venicee repulsive, they make for a ridiculous site as well. The huge ships ruin the whole picturesque ancient city's gorgeous silhouette, and polute the ambience. They look so out-of-place and tower over the gondolas like they were toys in the waterways. Add to that the disgruntled city dwellers, shopkeepers and restaurant owners who are often aghast at the lack of business, because the tourists will come in for a visit, but only to go back on board for lunch and dinner! Mass tourism is reaching alarming heights; when you have to wade through a sea of people to catch a glimpse of an ancient relic or building, something tells you we have cross a line in the sand and gone too far.
