It is mind boggling to hear Vladimir Putin talk about colonies or sovereign countries. We must remember that under international law that was signed by Moscow, all the treaties say that sovereign countries get to choose what alliances sovereign countries belong to. Treaties like the UN Charter was signed by Russia. The 1975 Helsinki agreement was signed by the Soviet Union. The 1990 Charter of Paris for a new Europe was also signed by the Soviet Union. The 1997 NATO Russia Founding Act was equally signed by the Russian Government. All those documents were signed by either the Soviet Regime or the Russian regime, which is the legally recognized international inheritor i.e., successor of the Soviet State. The fact is those agreements are still in place and they clearly state that sovereign countries can freely choose their foreign policy and what alliances they want to join.

@kenn4973 GGGGGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. You're right to say that there is a lot of hypocrasy from other governments over agreements. The US Government broke every treaty they signed with the Indians. But this time it's over-the-top. Imagine Venezuela coming over to Floriday and winning most of the state and then handing out Venezuelan passports to the Florians! Neighboring countries are aghast at what Russia is doing to its fellow slavs. Now a country like Finland sees that if Russia invades it would be worse. The winners write the history books; we'll see who wins in short time...

@palimpalim5291 GGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. War crimes must be investigated on both sides of the conflict. I am sure there is sufficiant evidence to back up what you say and that must be given to the proper authorities. This is a complex situation that echoes the Pallestinian / Israeli eternal conflict. No one has ever predicted the outcome of a war, so we're going to have to see how this works out.
