Congratulations to Professor Tim Spector in having his book on nutrition a number one best seller! That is no small achievement.

Tim, can you tell us what is going on in Shanghi? 25 million people are still in lockdown. It cannot be the omicron variant of Covid-19, can it?

Happy New Year Tim! Thank you and the Zoe team for your excellent vocasts (videocasts). After 24 months of this pandemic, I think we all have to ask the question of where this is going to go from here? What has this done to the global community? When can we expect a return back to normal and what will the new normal be?

I am invited to a soirée this coming Friday evening. I have been vaccinated and also had a jab. What I am concerned about is catching the Covid omicron virus. Is it too soon to go to hear a band where there will be over a hundred people in a confined space? Tim, what worries me is not catching the virus so much as to catch it and have one of the 200 symptoms affiliated with long-Covid for the rest of my life. Any thoughts on the matter? Is it all clear now?

Glad to hear things are getting better in your country. Now that we see there is a new variant in Viet Nam, a dangerous variant according to the Minister of Health, can we expect that by flu season we'll be getting the latest variant coming at us---I'm on the continent---and what do you think is going to happen if the variants keep getting stronger? Will one finally break through our vaccinated people?

@kirstierhodes2058 GGGGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. At the last minute, I cancelled. I've had the vaccines, a jab and even a flu shot, but I'm a singer and the Covid-19 virus and its variants can do permanent damage to one's lungs. I have to say that the war in Ukraine also erased my desire to go out and have a good time.

Thank you Tim and the ZOE team. What I am surprised about is hearing the Covid-19 omicron variant once again causing concerne across the world. What makes this virus so resilient? Why doesn't it die out? Is it because it has found the perfect host? With more than 3 million refugees flowing into our countries soon from the Ukrainian war, are we going to see unbelieveable spikes in infection rates once more? Why on Earth Putin started his invasion of the Ukraine with a pandemic going on is baffling.

I think researchers should try a new approach to solving the complexities of where disease comes from. I think there should be a pan-research approach. What do I want to say by this? Why not go into the lab and let your mind take you where it wants to go as far as digging in to finding out how to cure cancer, dimentia, immune system problems etcetera? Wouldn't it be a lot more interesting and fruitful to, say, start the day on an idea one has about where to look for a cancer anomalie and after lunch head into dimentia research on a hunch about what a certain protein is doing? Sometimes, when you stay glued to one thing, you end up not seeing the whole picture. You get numb to obvious red flags someone else might pick up because they've just come off hunting for gene or some molecule, and now they're working on your project. It's an idea and of course, you in research know better than all of us how to do your job.

Thank you and the ZOE team for keeping us who live outside of the UK up-to-speed on the new variant Omicron. What I have gleaned from watching you and the health professionals is all we all owe you a vote of thanks for your dedication to your profession and because of your research and advice, you have certainly saved many people from taking bad advice and becoming ill or worse simply because they heard from other sources that the vaccines were only Big Pharma's way of squeezing more money out of ordinary people. Tim, people are confused where I live too. They don't really believe the Big Pharma people are not cashing in on a cash-cow, but most people I know have finally got vaccinated. I've had two doses of Phyzer vaccine 6 months ago, a booster a week ago and I've also had a flu shot. All I know is this Omicron, Covid-19, pandemic---whatever you want to call it---is bigger than all of us, but I put my faith in you and the ZOE team and other dedicated health professionals who give us regular updates on the progression of this terrifying new variant.

What is wrong with wearing a mask? People, whoever is listening. I'm not a health professional, but where I live in Europe the hospital ICUs are once more filling up. We have to stop being so worried about our personal freedoms. My best friend refuses to get vaccinated, and I know another friend who won't either. I don't tell them to do it, but I just say my doctor says it's the thing to do--like wearing a mask in crowded trams. Boys and girls this is the perfect virus-storm we are in and it's not going to let us out if we don't wear masks.

325,000 new cases! Tim, how is this possible? I live 2,000 kilometers from Kiev and we're going to have tens of thousands of people streaming into our country and yours in short order. Aren't we going to see another spike in cases when the refugees start coming in?

Professor Tim speaks the truth and his words are medicine to those who believe in science. One look at this list of symptoms of long-Covid should convince even the most doubtful among us that health professionals like Professor Tim are only trying to help us avoid catching one of these troubling symptoms: 1. Extreme tiredness (fatique) 2. Shortness of breath 3. Chest pain or tightness 4. Problems with memory and concentration (“brain fog”) 5. Difficulty sleeping (insomnia) 6. Heart palpitations 7. Dizziness 8. Pins and needles 9. Joint pain 10. Depression or anxiety 11. Tinnitus, earache 12. Feeling sick, diarrhoea, stomach aches, loss of appetite 13. A high temperature, cough 14. Headaches, sore throat, changes to sense of smell or taste (anosmia) 15. Rashes

Thank you and your colleagues in the health services for keeping us all updated. To offer you some advice, try botox on your forehead. You don't see your own face, but your forehead is heavily lined in trenches and botox would smooth that out in 5 minutes.

The world owes Dr John Campbell and Dr Tim Spectre and the ZOE team a bouquet of thanks for your great work!

Thank you for elucidating this very mysterious drug. One of my best friends refuses to be vaccinated and swears by Ivermectin, but a recent report by a MSNBC NEWS PRESENTER showed the some people have gone into a coma after using it.

@hedydd2 Great to hear from you. I keep tuning in to everyone who's got something to say on everything I'm interested in. People who were convinced Covid-19 was a lab leak have flipped to saying it was zoologique. All the Chinese people who said anything about it coming from a lab are now behind bars or have disappeared.

How in the world is this going to end? Here we are 21 months into this endless pandemic and in the UK in the first week of September you have 57,000 or so new cases a day with an astonishing 949 cases of long-Covid a day. I have 3 friends who refuse to get vaccinated but all I know is that from what I have heard there are 200 known symptoms of Covid-19 in long-Covid sufferers that affect 10 organs in human beings. TIm and the ZOE team are doing an excellent job of keeping us informed and we hope we're all through this before too long. Be well -

Tim, could you please give us your assessment of the Chinese lockdown madness? All those millions of people in lockdown because of the omicron variant? What's wrong with that picture? Do you buy it when they say that China's vaccine was not good enough to combat omicron? There is something going on there and it sounds like a cover-up. Could a new deadly variant that is immune to the vaccines be on the loose?

FYI: Begs the question means assumes what it should be proving and does not mean raises the question. Correct use : « When I asked the dealer why I should pay more for the German car, he said I would be getting 'German quality', but that just begs the question. »

@mail4lana Great to hear from you. My correction of English being spoken correctly--thanks to Steven PInker--was not an order.

@mail4lana Great to hear from you. I'm going to give you twenty more responses and if you still won't agree I'm always right, I'll have to consider getting Tim on board...

What we are reading in other reports is that vaccinated people are now catching the new Indian variant B 1. 617. 2. The weak one's are even dying. This should be a red flag for all of us to remain cautious about large get-togethers until we see what is going to happen. Boys and girls, we have to realize that the Covid-19 virus that came out of Wuhan is like a summer cold compared to the latest mutation. There seems to be no doubt that the next mutation, probably when it hits Bangladesh or another country in southeast asia, will be the 'dam buster' and force us all to go back and get a booster shot. I don't mean to be alarmist. I'm not a health official. But everything I've read about long-Covid and the people I know who have it tell me of it being hell-on-wheels, with people having horrible symptoms weeks and months after getting over the initial illness. Can anyone imagine having brain-fog as a persistent symptom for the rest of one's natural life? I want to get out there as much as anyone, I want to go on a world tour with my music, but to go now would be playing Russian Roulette in my way of thinking. What's wrong with contining to wear masks and let another 6 months or longer go by taking it easy until we see where this thing is going to go?

I just tuned into Dr John Campbell's vocast after more than a year and he mentionned your data Tim, but you're even suggesting the infection rate is higher than what Dr Campbell said. I'm so exhausted from this bloody Covid crap, and I had finally stuffed my masks back in the cupboard and now a new wave and infections of almost 300,000 in your country makes me realize that we are up against a virus that has found the perfect host. Humans are to Covid what blood is for a mosquito.

Thank you Professor Tim, your videocasts have been very informative and enlightening. With 19 or more months of intense work and research and endless hours of time trying to get to the bottom of the pandemic, a vacation at this time is coming a little early in my opinion-but we understand and wish you a pleasant holiday studying bats in Wuhan. Just kidding Tim! We're all a little in need for some time off, but when I heard you need to wear a mask on the beach in Portugal, I'm settling for collecting butterflies in the Swiss Alps. You only need to run fast and swat them in mid-air. Seriously, the main thing we all have to realize is that--at least where I live--flu season is going to be coming round the corner soon, and are we going to meeting the variant to beat all variants i.e. the one the vaccines don't work against? Don't give up hope were some of cosmologist Stephan Hawkings last words. So true
1
Tim, this is shocking data. What on Earth is going on with this Covid-19 pandemic? How can infection levels be going up once again. I live in a European country where Kiev is 2,000 kilometers from our doorstep. We're getting war new from two fronts!!!
1
I live on the continent next to France and today I noticed people wearing masks in the trams. We haven't seen masks in weeks, but after seeing this vocast, I understand now. What is the B5? Why is the virus not dying out? Why would it be infectious in a heat wave that we are currently experiencing? I am mad and angry and fed up with this seemingly intractable virus that has poisoned our lives and now threatens us with a new variant that bypasses our vaccines. It's one crisis on top of another, but we can't let anything keep us down. Thank you Tim and Zoe team for being so professional and giving out comfort to your fellow citizens and those of us tuning in round the world.

Sorry you had to cut your holidays short when Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, but you got a great tan running across the desert to freedom, so all was not lost. I hope the pictures came out and the... Okay, I now know stand up comedy is something I can cross off the list. It's called humor and for the last 20 months we've had a distinct lack of things to laugh about, but thanks to dedicated health professionals like Tim Spector and his colleagues, we're constantly brought up-to-speed on the latest developments of this devastting virus that has invaded the entire planet. New Zealand had a countrywide lockdown for one Covied-19 Delta case which shows you how contageous the new variant is. Sadly, the pandemic rages on and can we ask why this is not a seasonal virus like we were told it was? How can it be propagting to such deadly affect on unvaccinated people in the summertime with warm temperatures? Lastly, our hearts and prayers go out to the wonderful Afghanistan people in their hour of need and hope that Covid-19 Delta does not do them serious harm.
1
@Odilebsgn I haven't heard of losing one's sense of smell from the flu, but there are actually 100 known symptoms from long-Covid. And the Delta is certainly not the last variant. What I hope people will realize is that to even have one symptom that goes on for months would be maddening. The doctors are there to tell us what is best for our health, why people aren't listening to them is pure folly. One of my best friends refuses to get vaccinated; I think it's a mistake.
