Dear Mr Harmann and the distinguished Professor Wolff, I live in Europe and it wasn’t too long ago when President Erdogan came to Europe calling Chancellor Merkel a nazi, blaming the Germans for atrocious crimes and saying horrible things about the Germans in general as well as to other countries. Undoubtedly, who many say is one of the best politicians in the world, Chancellor Merkel, true to form said nothing to Erdogan's tirade of disparaging remarks. The other European country's leaders Erdogan derided also said very little. I have no proof; I am not an economist,or politician, but It looks to me like they have found a way to silence him via the Turkish economy. I am probably wrong, as Professor Wolff has pointed out the real reasons for Turkey’s economic decline, but I would not be surprised if the Germans had a little bit to do with the precipitous fall of the Turkish lira. What better way to silence a belligerent and would-be tyrant than to hurt him in the pocketbook.
