  1. One thing we may not realize is that the Ukrainians may want to keep defending Bakhmut for one very good reason: it's already a destroyed city. Why fight in other Ukrainian cities when you know the Russians use artillery and siege warfare i.e., burning down or blowing up everything. So; why not just stay in Bakhmut and do all the fighting there? We must also remember that Zelensky speaks perfect Russian and he knows how the Russians think. He probably knows something we don't about Russian pride and their willingness to sacrifice their soldiers for a strategic goal. Bakhmut is a meat grinder for Russian forces and although the casualties are high for the Ukrainian side, I would bet the farm that Zelensky knows that there is a straw that breaks the camel's back for the Russian people. The spring will show beautiful flowers across Russia, but they will adornthe newly dug graves and one day there will be one grave too many.
