The Chinese have gotten what they wanted from the silly balloon game: everyone from the President of The United States on down has decided to get on the complain-train and riddle the Chinese with veiled accusations of not playing by the RULES. There are no more international rules and the Chinese are certainly not agreeing to any other country's rules. What must be avoided is discussing these incidents out loud in international viewing platforms by the whole world. The distinguished John Kirby should not be openly criticizing the Chinese, because this only gives ammunition to them for future antagonistic responses. The Secretary of State should have gone to China to speak to President Xi and not mentioned the absurd balloon practical joke. One can imagine the Chinese leadership and military laughing out loud among themselves at how the Americans took the bait. American / Chinese relations are too important to be discussed by each and every American official trying to determine what they are doing. The Chinese are best dealt with by a poker face; that's the only thing that throws a stick into their spokes.
