Oil went from $49.00- to $75.00- a barrel? I think Mr Summers is flabbergasted and dismayed at what he sees going on. He has been in the drivers seat in a time when deficits were high but manageable. What we are seeing--and we are on the other side of the world from you--is the disintegration of our global financial system. What has happened is what I think is Mr Summers most vivid nightmare: incompetent people in the highest office in the land. Ditto in the finance industry. We have all sat on the sidelines and watched our elected politicians practice voodoo economics with America's fragile financial system. And: America's decisions affect world policy. We have our backs against a wall and I think the jig is up: capitalism has been shown to be what its weakest element has always exhibited in spades. The system is a Ponzi scheme that is only set up to ensure that those at the top of the pyramid are left holding all the cards.
