  1. What you're saying Peter is that many European cities---including the one I am living in---could look like the background of your vocast. I think we should all prepare for an unknown unknown if you ask me. President Putin has a lot of advisers and most notably President Xi of China would like to have Putin's farewell go down as something he could live with. This would mean of course that some kind of battlefield victory has to be Putin's parting shot. One has to put oneself in Putin's shoes; for 22 years he has had everyone from dukes and duchesses to kings and queens and chancellors and presidents and prime ministers bow to his most outrageous wishes. What Putin will want if he has to go is for the whole world to know that Russia is strong and him too...

You're right of course and I think Merkel accepted the Russian gas deal only because it was the time when nuclear power and coal suddenly became a bad thing; the environmentalists were a force to be reckoned with and Russia seemed sane. What it now looks like to me is that Russia is going for the juglar in hitting the Ukraine's nuclear plants. My guess is they will hit a reactor and make it a dirty bomb and blame the Ukrainians and claim plausible denial. A big war is coming...
