  2. It's bound to happen. Like a hundred years ago and beyond people needed a lot of kids to help on the farm. Now, they don't need all the built in help, SO they don't need so many kids. PLUS kids and people died much more readily way back when so you had to have several offspring to ensure at least a few survive. Often times they ALL survived!
