My guess is they had been fighting over money. That morning they got into a major argument and as small she she was it wouldn't take much for an angry man to kill her, which he did. Then he panicked and tried to cover it up. He obviously didn't plan to kill her, as he was looking up all those searches on google right after. On top of all that and before he was a goofball who was used to spending money like it would never run out...Probably thanks to his rich dad who spent more money on him than time.
