I have a 2011 Ranger with identical ac/heat controls as your Mazda. My issue is when I turn the selector to the first position clockwise for vent (dash and floor) I hear the ac compressor kick on. It doesn’t seem to matter where the temperature control is however, when the temp control is all the way cold, I’m getting ac cooled air as opposed to outside vent air. With the temp control all the way hot I get hot air but the ac compressor is still running. This only occurs when the selector is in the vent panel/floor position. Please help. Thank you.

ChrisFix I get that but still doesn’t seem right since this situation only occurs in the vent dash/floor position plus if the temperature control is all the way to hot for heat the ac and heat are trying to compete with each other and in the winter I never really get “hot” air. I could understand to a certain extent if this occurred in the defrost mode only but not in dash/floor mode. What if it’s not a hot enough day to run ac but I just want a little ventilation? Now I’m running ac and fuel mileage suffers when I might as well be running ac. Is this a Ford design issue because I’ve never had this problem with my other vehicles? Thanks for a quick reply.
