One advantage to the contractor (or any revenue share) model is that the drivers only get paid if they show up. I'm guessing nobody lost money when your ride didn't show up.

@kaitlyn__L That doesn't solve anything that OP was complaining about, but I suppose I don't disagree with you.
11
@kaitlyn__L It looks like my comment got deleted by City Beautiful or the YouTube spam filter.

Amazon employs about 75,000 people in Seattle, out of about 2 million jobs in Seattle. This isn't an example of one employer monopsonizing the labor market in a city.
6
Do you have guidestones in your room with you right now?
5
They pay the taxes that they're required to pay. They don't voluntarily pay extra, and neither do you.
5
Which of those words do you not understand?
5
What kind of taxes aren't coercive?
4
Did you mean to comment on a different video?
3
@Rao_Sahab_7878 Sounds like a good way to take rentals off the market
3
People would rather blame the big scary corporation than stop shooting themselves in the foot.
3
Spoiler: LA Metro also loses money
3
What's the benefit of having the government provide financing? Private companies can do that.
3
Strip mine what resource, exactly? Empty downtown parking lots?
2
It's easier to say "Corporation bad!"
2
#SawantIsBrainDead
2
Traditional public transit also loses money.
2
@thejokerking9268 Why are they able to find so many people willing to pay those prices?
2
How insanely greedy do you have to be to not take a 2.5% cut to your wage?
2
Would you breach your legally-enforced fiduciary duty to shareholders?
2
@Alex-cw3rz A fiduciary duty to your shareholders. If a board acts against its shareholders interests, they will be sued into oblivion. This is corporate law 101.
2
@Alex-cw3rz Holy shit. I didn't realize I was talking to someone who can't even read English. I'm so sorry for overwhelming you with basic words! If you were able to read, you'd notice that I never said payroll taxes are illegal. You'd see that I said companies are obligated to return value to shareholders, which paying extra for labor runs against. Good luck in your test next week! Third time's the charm, right? They can't keep you in the 1st grade forever!
2
@Nswix Just report the EA guy for stalking you and move on. This guy is beyond redemption.
2
@Alex-cw3rz Yup. You owned me dude. Insulting me and completely ignoring every single fact of the matter. You truly are a master debater because you put your feelings first. You're not mentally deranged at all.
2
@Alex-cw3rz Delete your diatribe. You can still do it! I believe in you! You don't have to live with these shameful comments on your record! Maybe your handler can come help you do it.
2
You've just given the argument for why the city should not try to take punitive measures against Amazon and other large businesses, and then declared the opposite conclusion.
2
This but unironically.
2
Which is really all that public housing is good for
2
@gert-janvanderlee5307 How does it not? The private market builds almost all housing in almost every country on Earth.
2
@swayne1441 Why shouldn't it be allowed to exist?
2
@swayne1441 You can stop paying taxes when you remove yourself from society instead of leeching off of it.
2
Yes LVT is strictly better
2
@squelchedotter In fiscal year 2019, Metro says it pulled in $250–$300 million in fares to cover $1.9 billion in operating costs. You're either wrong or you're saying Metro is lying.
2
Tell me more about how the 2020 election was stolen.
2
So it's the exact same thing lol
2
It's so horrible that Amazon's economic activity has helped to make Seattle desirable!
2
That's an extra tax on labor. It's not their entire tax bill.
2
Do you have any examples?
2
@niklasmolen4753 You didn't answer my question so I'll ask it again: Do you have any examples of a law that was purchased?
2
Profit is a tiny slice of housing costs
2
@dafff08 AEI "Land Price and Land Share Indicators" show that land is the majority of housing prices in all major metros. CSI has been measuing profit margins of the housing industry at about 1-10%, which the 70th-75th most profitable industry.
2
Money is money. Nobody is going to pay extra for no benefit. In fact, corporations are legally obligated not to do so.
2
Good point. Amazon banned housing construction in America's cities. It totally wasn't the voters in those cities.
1
@thejokerking9268 So you're saying that demand exists for such properties.
1
@Alex-cw3rz You proved yourself wrong. These long-winded comments are a giant cope, and it's fun for literate people to see it!
1
@Alex-cw3rz "no u! reee!"
1
@Alex-cw3rz You are brain dead. How many times are you going to argue against a point I made? I specifically said the opposite of "a government appointed judge, is not going to say tax avoidance is grounds for a settlement." But go ahead, keep arguing against your own position. It's hilarious.
1
@Alex-cw3rz You ran away from the topic immediately after I pointed out you were wrong. Don't try to rewrite history. We can all see it in writing.
1
@Alex-cw3rz You win. You owned me with cowardice and unprovoked insults.
1
Amazon HQ is not dominated by working class employees. It's the knowledge workers.
1
TL;DW They have zoning but they just call it something else.
1
Why?
1
@patricialongo5746 Yup, I'm sure the representatives are all planning to retire soon because the voters hate this so much!
1
@ChillinwithLandD David O'Reagan 10 hours ago (edited) "Amazon brings the worlds best programmers all into a single city. Seattle complains about Amazon not giving enough to the city. Leave Seattle, Amazon. Other cities will see the people and talent you bring as the real asset, not just a “cooperation” to harvest taxes from. " Is YouTube glitching, or did you make the statement above 10 hours ago?
1
@gert-janvanderlee5307 Why do you need it to be public if the private market can do the exact same thing and make you happy?
1
@swayne1441 So income tax is unethical by your own logic. They're taking the money you own.
1
@swayne1441 Ah I get it. We can all just live on the anarcho commune instead.
1
Weird but OK. That leaves more wealth for other communities.
1
Another stick is congestion tolls, which have the extra benefit of funding alternative transportation infrastructure.
1
Does capitalism cause chaos or unjustified hierarchy?
1
......why? The workers would still fall victim to competing firms.
1
@Nswix corporation bad REEE
1
@sta292 So should the industrial neighborhood remain eternally blighted?
1
Congratulations
1
You're missing the "more than now" at the end of your sentence. Also, this was a video about a corporation paying taxes, not a person.
1
@Albert-fe8jx You're basically describing Washington state perfectly lol.
1
They kinda do it with Uber Pool, but I doubt they'll do it on the same scale as mini busses. Their business model doesn't involve buying their own vehicles.
1
They want to help their shareholders. You know -- their entire reason for existing.
1
Good luck corralling hundreds of thousands of people into taking the same huge risk together. There's a reason NH never became the bastion of the libertarian party.
1
@squelchedotter Why are you telling me this? Is it because you acknowledge that LA Metro loses money, but you're afraid to say it?
1
Transit agencies are required to have something like this in areas where transit doesn't meet ADA requirements. It's a matter of nondiscrimination.
1
@onesob13 So you don't think that voters actually wanted to purchase things from ride share companies. You're the only person to ever tell me that referendums are less democratic than banning referendums.
1
@niklasmolen4753 Student loans CAN be discharged in bankruptcy. You have no idea what you're talking about. I have no idea where this rumor comes from.
1
@onesob13 LMAO I'm glad we've found something entirely new to talk about. You no longer contest anything I said.
1
That's ultra expensive, and it still encourages people to drive downtown.
1
How much do you value your time? Would you spend an extra hour on your round trip to save $20? I wouldn't.
1
What does the HO in HOA mean? 🤔
1
The people who can afford to move long distance and work from home full time are generally looking for a nice clean safe place to live.
1
Potentially even the duty to leave, if it makes their Seattle-based investments less profitable than other investments their shareholders could make.
1
Well I suppose other cities will enjoy the wealth!
1
Why should every working class person not working or owning the Gary steel plants have to pay more for goods and services? Working people rely on affordable goods to maintain and improve their conditions.
1
@alexsmith-ob3lu I'm sorry my response didn't plug into your prepared speech. I take it that you don't have an answer to my question then.
1
@alexsmith-ob3lu That's completely different than what you originally said about implementing protectionist policies.
1
@alexsmith-ob3lu This is blatant projection but OK. I hope you never have to deal with anyone questioning your ideology in the future.
1
@SilverSlayer23 Literally nobody has ever been imprisoned for not filing a Form 1040 for one year. You're just making stuff up now. I don't hear any solutions from you for how to make companies pay more in local taxes. I just hear how it makes you mad that they avoid paying avoidable taxes.
1
@thepedrothethethe6151 Financing is a minuscule slice of construction costs, but I guess you can claw back a tiny bit if you feel good about it.
1
Most people don't want to be screamed at by stinky people when they are walking to the coffee shop.
