There is a legal basis: it's called a subpoena. House committees are entitled by law to demand documents like tax returns, for the purposes of oversight. Your move, sir.

Man, this headline is so biased... in Republicans' favour. Let's be real here, the story is that Republicans are refusing to comply with the House committees' demands for information. This headline suggests that the problem is two-way, when really, it's just one side refusing to play by the rules, and the other saying "Hey, guys, do you not understand what laws are?"

Do you not understand how House subpoenas work? @unpaidtroll8475 Noncompliance with a legal subpoena is a crime, yo.

@catcowboy6376 Which law requires him to hand over his taxes? None. Great! He's off Scot free! Oh but wait, there is this little thing called a House subpoena which his government is legally required to comply with, or face criminal prosecution... bummer.

@gruv98 You refuse a House subpoena at peril of prosecution in the courts, and being held in Contempt of Congress. So yes, technically you can refuse - but it is illegal. And will you goons PLEASE shut up about Hillary, it's getting SO old.

@gordon trimble Yes, let's change the subject yet again because we weren't far enough off-topic already.
