Just a quick reality check, to help everybody stay calm in this crisis - the number of infected is still actually very small - under 10,000 last I checked. And so far, the mortality rate is very low, likely remaining under 0.3%. There's going to be a lot of scare stories pushed to you over the coming days (and I'm not talking particularly about mainstream news, but on your Facebook feeds, in your Twitter messages), in order to sell scam products and push xenophobic ideologies. Don't buy into it. The lockdown of Chinese cities is scary and makes for compelling viewing - but it's simply there to contain the spread of the disease. It does not mean the disease is running out of control. It means that governments around the world are taking the danger seriously, and working to protect us all. :) The most important thing to do at times like these is to keep calm.

@haruuri5464 No, it's actually very few. The real danger is if the virus mutates - a thing which it absolutely could do, but as of yet, it hasn't. I don't want to play down the danger - just put it in perspective. :)

@eddier6070 Would you feel safer if they weren't taking it seriously, building hospitals and whatnot? I'm not sure that would make me feel any safer. :)

@Its-Angela While it might make you feel safer, panic buying like this is actually more likely to turn an otherwise safe situation into a disaster. If people see a rush on the shops and join in, there'll be nothing left on the shelves, causing a shortage - and there may never have been a disruption to the supply of food on the way.
