Comments by "Cinderball" (@cinderball1135) on "Johnson postpones easing of coronavirus restrictions in England as cases rise" video.
You know, Mr Johnson, it would help if you made plans before the disaster struck and not several weeks after it's too late...

Deaths are a lagging indicator. First you contract the virus, then a couple of weeks later, you might develop symptoms and be confirmed as a new case. A month or so later, if you're very unlucky, you die. By the time deaths spike, it is about five weeks too late to avoid disaster - and any measures you take at THAT stage will require another month to show up in the mortality rate.

This is really the crux of the problem, I think, and the fairest assessment. The Conservatives in government have been slow to take up knowledge that was widespread at the time - they're the last to reach the finish line when it comes to instating a lockdown, or recommending wearing face masks. They seem reluctant to use information and data they have at their very fingertips, and they're territorial about preventing anybody else from accessing it either. It's not that the steps they've taken are wrong per se, but they've all come too soon or too late, they've all been a little too piecemeal, and they've all required public outcries to accomplish. Weak government.

In public places, this is not a bad idea - but bear in mind that there are only going to be virus particles if infected people breathe them out. Wear a mask!

@pug2322 Calling other people sheep isn't a magic spell that somehow makes you right.

Indeed - new cases are a lagging indicator. These simply indicate the number of people who were unwell enough to seek medical attention and to get tested in the first place. People without symptoms will not have been detected - and this includes people who, in several days or weeks' time, will go on to be symptomatic.

K MT Actually, I think you'll find there was no shortage of people warning about the need to lock down weeks and weeks before the government did it - and Labour was banging the drum about the need to plan for reopening schools for months before Johnson abruptly decided it was his turn to have a go.

@pug2322 Your opinion is quite literally killing people.

@ChristianPatriarchy Your Caps Lock key is broken again.

@silvialehmann398 I try my best to manage a balance. :) There are some ideas, especially the conspiracy theories about mask-wearing, which need to be challenged because they are actively harmful. I generally don't do it for the sake of the troll, but rather for the sake of whoever might happen across the thread and read it :)

If you're going to post half-baked conspiracy theories, please do us the courtesy of proof-reading them before you send them. Your English is unintelligible.

@gavingroom3384 Please entertain me. How exactly do you think the numbers are "fiddled"? Explain it to me like I'm stupid.
2
Because Johnson and his mates were absolutely blitzed when they wrote the policy - that's why.
2
@ChristianPatriarchy Yes, but it'd be wasted on you.

You people's ability to completely fabricate this interconnected alternate universe counterfactual narrative is truly astonishing. You missed a career opening as a writer of atrocious airport fiction.

@MrUnderdawg777 When you're calling random strangers on the internet "demons", the only case you've made is for why you shouldn't have unsupervised access to it.

194 countries committed treason against themselves? LOL.

@jonsid6628 I and many people like me started cancelling our commitments and distancing from our social circles well in advance of lockdown.
1
@jonsid6628 You asked me if I cancelled plans - I said yes. Now you're interpreting that "yes" as me claiming to be as important as an entire country? You're not as clever as you think you are.
