I was home educated myself, and I can tell you from my own experience, it only worked because I'm a highly independent learner - and because my Mum was content to be my resource-getter - not my teacher. We tried doing one to one lessons, and it was a total disaster from day one. For my GCSEs and A levels, I either had paid private tutors, or I did them alone. Could not agree more with parents being "involved", but not being a replacement for a qualified teacher.
