From the outside, it's always struck me that the crowd of people who say "we need guns to defend our rights against a tyrannical government" are the people most likely to serve as foot-soldiers to said tyrannical government.

Just to clarify, for the people above who didn't read the first three words of my comment: I'm not American. And I don't especially care whether you identify as a Republican, Democrat or Independent. I wouldn't want to set foot in your country, and if you own a gun, you're part of the reason why.

@evolspeed4862 If you don't see the difference between a knife and a gun, I am not wasting my time giving you an "educated" or "enlightened" explanation. I'll give you the kids' table version: knives can be used for things other than killing people. Assault rifles can't.

@evolspeed4862 We're not talking about people hunting bears - you don't use an assault rifle or a machine gun to hunt bears. The ONLY purpose of a firearm is to inflict grievous bodily harm on another living being. There IS no other function.
