Let's be real here: Tennessee Republicans are fascists. That's what they are. That's not a pejorative, that's just an accurate description.

"America is a Democratic nation."

@wishiwassleeping8382 I'm not sure that even the word "Republic" will be justified any more. If Trump succeeds in rigging this election, do any of us seriously imagine that America will ever again have a President whose last name is not Trump?

White Diamond "Go look at Portland." You seem to think those four words work like some kind of magical spell of rationalism which dispel all opposing arguments. It won't change the fact that police brutality triggered these protests and has perpetuated them - and that President Trump's brutal tactics have only induced more violence. How many more police killings will it take for you to consider the possibility that horrific violence isn't the answer to every mild disturbance?

@wishiwassleeping8382 It's a bit reductive to say that either you have one President or mob rule. Representative Democracies exist in all shapes and sizes around the world, some more democratic than others. "Direct Democracy" of the sort where people directly dictate the agenda simply doesn't exist on a large scale, and nobody I'm aware of is advocating for it - so it seems a little bizarre to bring it up. :)

@wishiwassleeping8382 Okay, that's fair. My point is that there are a lot of people who consider the US to be a bastion of democratic freedoms - and my counterpoint is that it's a relatively unfree nation, founded on principles that are not really quite democratic. Personally, I vehemently disagree with James Madison. He was wrong: democracy is not mob rule, and mob rule is not democracy. Democracy is a system built on checks and balances, where the people direct the course of government, but no one institution has absolute power.
