Comments by "Cinderball" (@cinderball1135) on "Chomsky: Biden Furthest Left Candidate on Climate Ever" video.
Nobody is saying Biden is to the left of the rest of the field - just to the left of any previous Democratic or Republican Presidential candidate. The fact he's not leftwing enough for you doesn't really come into that part of the analysis.

In politics, you win by drawing more people over to your side. When we're attacking Moderates more aggressively than we're attacking fascists, we're setting ourselves up to lose. If Leftists and Moderates team up, a leftwing agenda will gradually be normalised, and you'll establish a loyal constituency that presently is lacking. On the other hand, if Progressives keep insisting on shooting down their putative allies, they're going to consign themselves to irrelevance for another generation: Take it from me, a sad leftwing activist living in Conservative Britain, who watched Corbyn's Labour alienate a huge chunk of the soft-left constituency that had carried Tony Blair to victory in the early oughts, and who must now live under the boot of the most aggressively far-right British government since the First World War.

This and some other comments in this section are really over the line. If you're a genuine leftwing activist, I think you had better take a long, hard look at your values, and ask if this kind of comment is consistent with the kind of society you want to live in.

On the subject of historical comparisons, Otto von Bismarck who coined the term "Realpolitik" was instrumental in the unification of Germany and the construction of a viable country out of a mess of warring city states and princedoms. His approach was always to pursue his goals by incremental steps, never trying to seize a position he wasn't sure he could hold. He sought alliances with anybody who could advance his interest, and was ruthless about discarding them when it became necessary. Had he merely unleashed the might of the Prussian military on his neighbours, history would remember him like it remembers Napoleon Bonaparte - as a megalomaniacal and bloodthirsty tyrant, whose achievements were easily overturned and forgotten. Instead, it remembers him as one of Europe's greatest statesmen, with an enduring and noteworthy legacy.

@mikeandyholloway Where in Betty's comment did she say M4A is extremist?
2
@mikeandyholloway I think under the circumstances, anything less than a vote for Biden is a vote for Trump. It sucks that things are that way, but that's America's broken political system for you. Perhaps that's something we can agree on? :)
2
I could say I'm as European as Napoleon Bonaparte without laying claim to Napoleon's military genius or his importance as a (megalomaniacal) historical figure. Here, David is drawing a comparison between his and Chomsky's political views - not their prominence.
2
Let's call him out after the fact, not before it, yeah?
2
If you go far enough to the Left, eventually you find yourself shaking hands with fascists again. Extremists of both stripes have a terrifying amount in common.

@mhh0111 That's not what I asserted. What I asserted is that if you're willing to burn the whole world down to get what you want, you are starting to sound a lot like the fascists on the other side.
1
@mhh0111 If you think Trump and Biden are worth the same, then you've made up your mind, and have no need to participate in this conversation at all. :)

@10003159 It's not a neoliberal position to take a soft-left or a centrist candidate over a fascist sending military police to violently oppress protestors. Is a Biden victory a major win for progressivism? Maybe not in the short term - but it paves the way for a positive change far better than a Trump win ever could.

@lau_dhondt If you're saying "sorry if I sound smug, but..." I have a suggestion for you: save yourself the embarassment, and find something more constructive to say.
1
@lau_dhondt I'm glad to see a troll admit that getting under people's skin is all they're about. Carry on.
1
@lau_dhondt Ha. I feel that's a little bit of a low blow - if you tangle with Nazis on the internet, as I've had the displeasure of doing more than once, it's best not to advertise your true identity. :P Perhaps you're not a troll, which makes a pleasant change - but I don't think that the arrogance here is David's. I think adopting a "smug" posture in a comment section is just asking to get into a needless fight. Better to speak from the heart. And I stand by what I originally said - I think your original post crosses the line of good taste. By all means disagree with David (or me!) politically, but please don't make it a personal attack - not if you plan on hanging onto any moral high ground. :)

@mhh0111 I am impressed to see Russian-bot style trolls on this comment section. I've seen them on outlets like Channel 4, but never on David Pakman's videos. He must be going up in the world!
1
@mikeandyholloway Pray tell how you'd like to me regard someone who falsely accused me of gaslighting?
1
@mikeandyholloway Please stop misappropriating psychoanalytical buzzwords - your comment doesn't even make grammatical sense at this stage.
1
@mikeandyholloway You're very eager to chew other people out for making assumptions, but you seem eager to make assumptions about me. Either way, I really do want to move on from this conversation, because I genuinely have better things to do with my time today.

Are these genuine angry lefties in the comments, or are these standard-issue Kremlin trolls? People are getting really personal and I don't understand why. Disagree about politics, by all means, but calling David arrogant is pushing over the line.
1
@dmx952 Those two seem to be torching their credentials as actual Progressives. They seem to be moving into the "crazy" niche of pundits like Alex Jones, twisting the facts beyond all recognition, to support points that they clearly don't.
1
@mikeandyholloway I think it was abundantly clear the the kind of extremism Betty was talking about is about tactics and not policies. For example, getting into nasty, personal character assassinations or starting arguments with fellow lefties on YouTube comment sections...

@nohbuddy1 Obama never promised most of the things Biden is.
1
@nohbuddy1 Starting to sound a lot like a 2012 Republican there, mate.

Fail to vote, and you have no say in what kind of politicians you'll get next time around. If you vote, you create incentives for parties to try and sway your vote in future elections by standing better candidates.
