As a Brit, I do strongly suspect that as soon as our politics get back to something resembling normalcy, the next generation of politicians will be able to use punching up at the US as an easy way to win elections. If I were building a manifesto for a new party, trying to establish a name for myself, I'd run on severing the Special Relationship. It'd be a vote winner - and just straight up good policy from our point of view. Being allied to the US is getting Britain into one pointless war after another, and I for one don't like the way Trump is posturing towards Iran and China. I don't want UK servicemen to pay the price because Trump has a potty mouth.
