Typical comment: Party [X] will lose horribly if they don't do [THING I CARE DEEPLY ABOUT]. Yeah, guys, let me disappoint you for a hot minute: most voters know nothing about politics, and won't know anything about the issue you're discussing. They just vote for candidates based on the personality and whether they have a nice smile. Your pet issue, important as it may truly be, is not going to be decisive - no matter how much as it might deserve to be. Remember, if you know ANYTHING about politics - and if you watch this show, you are likely in the top 1% of most informed people on the internet - you are part of a very small intellectually driven minority. Your opinions, your perspective, are niche. You do not represent more than a tiny sliver of the real electorate. Unfortunately.

@amremorse Yes. I'm in the UK, and yes, it really is that bad. The overwhelming majority of people consume less than an hour of politics in an entire week. If you watch a segment of this program every day and nothing else you are kicking the snot out of your average American or Brit.

@removeme5206 It is certainly one of Trump's only positive contributions to the world that he's made voters more attentive to the news. Let's see how long it lasts before we assign any credit though :P

@amremorse Oh my stat certainly isn't scientific, but I don't believe it's far off the mark. There was a segment on this just before the Presidential election back in 2020, with Rachel Bitecofer if memory serves. She pointed out just how niche the audience of a show like this truly is. It's quite the cold shower, when you think about it.

Xenophobes have always turned out in high numbers. They're the most reliable voters in politics. That's why when there's low overall turnout, they tend to form such a decisive percentage of the remaining vote.
